The Alt version is just that, an alternate version. Usually it's because someone uploaded an ISO image that differs in size or checksum or as a .mdf disk image instead. The MSDN image is one that was either an image downloaded from the Microsoft Developer Network or was delivered on CD to someone as part of a MSDN subscription. I'm not quite sure how a MSDN image differs from the Retail image, though.
