Which Win2000 build starts listening to port 445?
Which Win2000 build starts listening to port 445?
I just wonder when is SMBv1 on port 445 starts in-use in Windows 2000 builds.
Re: Which Win2000 build starts listening to port 445?
SMB/DCOM/RPC (As shown in services.msc) bind to port 445 on NT automatically when sharing role is enabled (Default out of box). I use the WWDC tool to "close" the port which tweaks a registry value related to SMB protocol configuration, strip the server and termsvcs processes out of XP/2000 so it can only act as a client (With VMware HGFS only) and have all ports closed on W2K (XP with a little more work) You should also configure key signing and other security settings on base W2K group policy, due to very open defaults.
