Massive archive of 300+ disks

Post by winnt32 »

On the Windows 3.00 debug version post, there was links to this site: http://actapricot.org/disks/xxxxx.dsk. There's over 300 disk images there. But I apparently can only access it with a browser, because it apparently needs a password?

Anyway, we might have to download it one-by-one

just use one of the download managers for browsers. I use Down Them All for Firefox, and it lets you download all the links on a page.

Well someone will have to go through these and identify them all.

I've downloaded them, and the .zip files have the contents of the .dsk files.

apr00187.zip has three files:

COMMAND.COM
IO.SYS
MSDOS.SYS, they are dated July 24, 1987, or in the case of IO.SYS, February 2, 1989.

Yes, why not? Drivers are software as well and often released as beta, even today.

Why? We don't carry drivers, and everyone already has access to it through this thread.

There's an index of all the disks here: http://actapricot.org/disks/aprididx.htm

I've made a mirror available here in case the files are not available ;)

Some files were not downloadable thought, because their size is null (ex : apr00262.zip 0 K), but their equivalent *.dsk are here.

Is there any tips on how to extract files from apricot .dsk images properly ?

Dsktrans from Libdsk can convert apridisk to raw, but it's still impossible to read files from such converted image.

That would be because the Apricot used a 3.5'' floppy drive with 315k or 720k formated floppies, which probably use a proprietary FAT format.

When you're using dsktrans include the -pcdos option to convert the boot sector from Apricot to PCDOS format; once you've done that you should be able to get at the contents with mtools or winimage.
