Whistler 2428 bootloop

Post by ComboOfWombo »

I'm trying to install build 2428 in VMware Workstation Player 12, but when it gets to the blue screen with the gray bar at the bottom that says, "Starting Windows Whistler" it restarts the VM and continues doing this. Yes, I did set the BIOS date back. Can someone tell me how to fix this?

Sounds like a kernel panic. Assuming you have a reasonable amount of memory allocated to the machine? I don't have much experience with VWware Player, have you tried it in VirtualBox? I usually have the best luck there with the older Windows builds.

See my topic on this... The answer should be in the second to last post https://www.betaarchive.com/forum/viewt ... 61&t=36332

VMware Workstation 12 is pretty new, so I wouldn't really use it for installing betas like this (I've had lots of problems on a real, Socket 423 PC with 2428 too).

If you can, use Virtual PC 2k7 or try VirtualBox.
Main computer: HP 820 G4 | i5-7500U | 16GB DDR4 | 256GB M.2 SATA SSD & 2TB 2.5" HDD | Linux Mint 21.3 Xfce
XP PC: ASUS P5QPL-AM | Xeon L5408 | 4GB DDR2-800 | 250GB 870 EVO SSD | ATi HD 6450 | XP SP4
9x PC: MSI MS-6368 v5 | Pentium III-S 1266 | 640MB PC133 | ATi 7000 PCI | 10GB HDD | WinMe
Other PCs: 2x EeePC 701 (1x spare, 1x XP SP3), HP 800 G2 DM (Win11 23H2), Wyse Cx0 (XP SP1a)
I collect Windows CE devices.

Make sure you have ACPI disabled in VMware and use IDE controller as hard drive controller.

Well, I can't really use VPC due to Windows 10, but VBox worked! Its still a pain the change the BIOs date though...

I agree on the BIOS date thing. That's one thing I really don't like about it, and I think Oracle isn't going to change it soon...
