I made the .NET Framework 1.2 from the Longhorn build 4053 works on Windows XP.
If anyone wants a tutorial, I'll do it.

What does this bring to the table? Is it a subset of .NET 2.0 or a superset of 1.1? How can you even target it?

You do realise there's literally a Microsoft-released installer for the .NET Framework version found in 4051/4053, that was included in the PDC03 disks?
Edit: .NET Framework 1.2 is just an early 2.0. They renamed it a little later because it grew into a bigger release.
