Christmas came early this year...

Post by marcoguy »

Made a pretty big find recently..

Coming soon to an FTP near you: Windows betas, burn lab discs, PDC/MTB/misc conference CDs, and much more!

Everything is dumped from original media using A120, and scanned into compressionless 600DPI PNG files.

I've sourced stuff from early Memphis through Vista SP1 builds. Most of this is unleaked and new to the community. Many of the Vista and XP MCE builds are from vbl_media, vbl_media_ehome, or vbl_media_ehome_dev, and appear to contain a custom installer intended for Microsoft employees.

Here's what's been processed so far and is ready for your enjoyment:

Note that the release names here are subject to change as they are integrated into the FTP. Some stuff might not match up exactly as you see it here.

The Windows stuff is already dumped and is currently being made available on the FTP, but I've gotten a good deal of other stuff in this find. The rest are conference discs, internal training discs, demo discs, and application betas. I'll update this thread with a new list when that's all been finished.

And I'd like to thank mrpijey for not only packaging everything for release but also combing through all this stuff and catching any mistakes I missed. It's been a pretty long process and if it weren't for him this big release wouldn't be happening.

May I also add that even if we might have some of these builds and releases all of these come from original CD-ROM/DVD-ROM media, so they will replace any older release that isn't already an original one.

Well, that's a nice mass leak I see here. All from original media no less!

Never been that interested in post-reset Longhorn stuff but with some builds from interesting labs, I might have to check some of it out.

Did anyone say that I wasn't happy with what was already there? What if I was just asking out of curiosity? Think about these things before you speak. You don't know the person's intentions.

When someone dumps a big load of presents at your feet the first thing you is not ask "is there more?". But hey, that's just me.

Thanks to marcoguy anyway for bringing all these nuggets. I've added them to the FTP now and will shortly update the log as well. Many older releases got replaced which unfortunately will not be reflected in the log.

Wow, where in the world did you manage to find all these media center builds?! I wonder what sort of goodies lie dormant in these builds - lots of work is ahead of us to determine the differences between these builds and similar winmain-lab builds. Should be quite a bit of fun determining the changes each build brought. Thanks marcoguy & mrpijey!

Neat, https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/c ... ouHYFoU6gJ - the only mentioned build is 2128, nearly 16 years ago. Now we have this build!

Now all I need to do is source an Alpha system... :P (not really serious, I don't have the space)

6.0.5212.0.winmain.050726-1915_x86fre_server-client-unstaged_retail_en-us
Never heard of that even existing, but thanks anyway for those unexpected leaks :D
6.0.5284.0.vbl_media_ehome.051218-1800_x86fre_server-client-unstaged_retail_en-us
That would be awesome!
6.0.5824.16387.vista_rtm.061017-1900_x86fre_client-retail_en-us
That's the build that had the XP upgrade bug IIRC, which 5840 fixed.

There is a different 5212 that in the screenshot has the first start Orb. I wonder if that winmain has it.

THANKS, Thanks, thanks. marcoguy, for uploading this stuff. For now I'm back in the beta scene!

I'm going to install the 5212 build, see if it has the pretty start orb.
Thanks for the dumps!

Screenshots coming up.

Doubtful, since this is winmain, and that 5212 was vbl_ux, which is equivalent to lab06, so it's far more advanced over winmain. Also, for 5212, you have to use the 5219 key.

EDIT: Image

WAIT, this build comes with Sidebar! Transparent even!
Image

And most importantly, aero works, unlike 5112, in vmware(but it looks exactly like 5112 aero):

It even has flip3d(use win+spacebar for it). IIRC 5112 didn't.

Wow super impressive haul! I think there is early ia64 stuff in there although I'm not sure of the build numbers off the top of my head, and internet on a plane is so slow, but I had to say, what an amazing lot!!!!

This took too damn long to install, not only because of the corrupted files but because every MCE serial I tried would not work (it either didn't accept the serial or that serial installed Pro only).

Naturally, I will not be releasing my hackjob of an ISO that also contains a patched medctroc.dll that always installs Media Center Edition components.

First, here's Media Center's about screen:

Image

Second, here's how Media Center's UI is completely broken in the menus, etc:

Image

Third, here's the usual desktop/winver/etc:

5.1.2600.1078.xpsp1.020716-1800_x86fre_client-mediacenter_retail_en-us

Disc01.mdf was broke.

The AutoCRC string is include but I make ISO into WinImage, CRC error comes out.

I downloaded a twice again but a result was the same.

Since I see that we're now discussing testing of these new builds, I thought I'd post about Memphis Build 1353 which I've just installed on 86Box a while ago.

Image

Things I've noticed:
- It's very similar to build 1351.
- The UI has a blue glow when you hover a button.
- The same sound effects as Windows 95 + A "click" sound that can be heard when browsing Explorer.
- The Startup Sound won't be heard unless changed manually due to the fact that it tries to use "mssound.wav" as the default sound even though it doesn't exist.

Installation Notes:
- The BIOS date is December 21st, 1996.
- The installed build only takes up 110MB of HDD space, So use a disk size between 300MB-2GB.
- This has the same glitch as 1351 where it defaults to 640x480x4 after the installation (At least when using an S3 Trio 64).
- Don't forget to run the setup from R:/MEMPHIS when using a boot disk.

Might as well add something here:

1513:

Image

* As expected, it's very similar to 1511.
* This is a "Developer Preview Update", according to it's CD.

6910:

Image

* Best described as "6801 x64, but with fish" (not surprising, as it was compiled two days later than 6801).
