How to install VMWare Tools in Windows 2000

If you have any troubles installing VMWare Tools in Windows 2000
With an error message saying:Microsoft Runtime DLLs cannot be installed on this Operating System

1.Download this File:
ISO Download:
Download Here!

The EXE from this website belongs to:Microsoft

2.Mount The ISO into the Virtual Machine

3.Then,Install the EXE File that is there

4.After Finish Installing the file,Then Install the VMWare Tools

If Everything Goes Well,VMWare Tools Should install into your Virtual Machine

A better solution is installing the Update Rollup for Windows 2000 SP4 (KB891861) ; it includes KB835732 and many others hotfixes.

After the installation of the Update Rollup (and restart the VM), you can install VMware Tools in Windows 2000 guest.

For even better results slipstream the rollup to the ISO prior to the install.

Nice find! I've installed KB835732 (on Win2K SP2), and this makes VMWare Tools work perfectly, starting SP2 (you don't even need SP4!). Thank you!
