LEGO Demo/Promo Discs

Post by jamesster »

This is a bit obscure, but whatever, posting on the offchance anybody here is interested.

In the late 90s and early 2000s, LEGO was diving into the video game scene, and was partnering with developers left and right to crank out games. Some were pretty neat (LEGO Racers, LEGO Rock Raiders), others were... not.

They were also experimenting with other promotional CDs, sometimes just containing glorified advertising, but others had a lot more work put into them, containing mini-games, animated videos, alternate building instructions, etc. They were handed out at toy fairs and other events, included with games and building sets, even included in breakfast cereal boxes and with other food - LEGO gave them out everywhere they could.

So in case anybody's interested, there's several people and websites that are now hosting this mostly forgotten LEGO freeware:
http://biomediaproject.com/bmp/lmp/promo-cds/ (Note: The "LEGO Demo CD" they currently have is IB2G-ISXDEMO)
http://www.brickfactory.info/iso/index.html
This page seems to be a bit broken at the moment, but the files for the discs are still online. Here's an archive of the page as it should normally appear:
http://web.archive.org/web/201305071101 ... index.html

Here's DM1G-GEN5, another demo disc, uploaded by a friend of mine on another forum (Brickulator):
http://www.mediafire.com/download/fr2b8 ... godemo.iso
http://www.majhost.com/gallery/brickula ... odemo1.jpg
http://www.majhost.com/gallery/brickula ... odemo2.jpg

I have ISOs for these two (GEN-DEMO-02 and DM1G-GENMU5), thanks to another friend (bartvbl):
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/james ... g_0073.jpg
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/james ... g_0074.jpg
I haven't uploaded them anywhere yet, but it's on my to-do list.

The software/game demo discs tend to look similar, but often contain significantly different content - and usually, beta screenshots, alternate versions of FMVs from games, demos of course, trailers with beta footage, etc.

Anyway, it's kind of niche, but I thought I'd post this stuff anyway in case somebody is in the mood for some LEGO nostalgia.

Thanks for posting it, jamesster.

I've always loved these kind of forgotten shovelware titles. As I'm typing this, I'm eyeing my copy of Sneak King, which is so interesting yet, so terrible.
Gonna have to check this stuff out.

Got those two, too.

I think I've also got a mindstorms demo CD and a LEGO trailer CD that came with an issue of Fun Online.
The yellow LEGO submarine also came with a CD (IRRC). [Edit, that one is already on the page]
I should also have some Bionicle mini CDs somewhere...

Might upload those later (if I can find them)

Interesting, how old is the Fun Online disc? Never heard of it.

Also, if anybody has a rip of this, I'd be interested in it:

Forgot to include this in the OP... A LEGO Drome Racers promo, apparently with ties to Nestle, from 2002. Uploaded by another friend on another forum (Mumboking).

http://www.mediafire.com/download/crdl0 ... GLE.7z.002
http://www.mediafire.com/download/o20vj ... GLE.7z.003

As for Bionicle stuff, I also forgot to link to this in the OP:
http://biomediaproject.com/bmp/promo-cds/
Lots of cool stuff there, including...

A demo/prototype of an unreleased Bionicle game for the Xbox!
http://biomediaproject.com/bmp/files/cd ... (Xbox).zip
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6R_mc2oreU
I'd seen the video of it before, but last I knew it wasn't available online. Awesome!

I actually should have that lying around here somewhere, unfortunately I cant find it right now (if I do I'll upload it unless someone beats me to it).

However there was also a snowboard and (I think) a hockey version of these games? If someone has those, I would be interested in them as well.

There's more than one? My goodness, how many promo discs did LEGO make?

Yeah, I'd be interested in... Whatever else anybody has, I guess.

I'm on wifi with a data cap at the moment, but I'll look into getting those two unuploaded discs I have online next chance I get. The ISOs are on an old laptop.

Also, that unreleased Bionicle game for Xbox reminded me of another canceled Bionicle game...

Sadly, this one isn't publicly available. There's somebody out there with a disc of the game as it existed when it was canceled, but he's not sharing the contents, he just sent videos to MarkOfMoD, who then uploaded them to YouTube.

I remember being very excited for that game. I had it preordered, watched the trailer off of my Bionicle mini-CDs (that came with the early Toa sets) a million times, and was looking forward to owning my own, physical Vahi, the mask of time, a promotional item LEGO was going to send to everyone who bought the game.

I think it goes without saying that I was pretty disappointed when the game was cancelled. Getting to play a beta of it, regardless of quality, would be amazing.

Found it -> https://www.mediafire.com/?3atq5qpfqsnd1me

It seems there was also a football version if you look into the wallpapers folder on the disk (so 4 in total, at least regarding sports).

Yes indeed, one of the demo discs had a demo for LI2 on it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dagA9PWvMuQ
There's a download link in the video description.

I also have a promotional version of the first LEGO Island game, it's the full game but the launcher has advertisements for some Cheez Mania snack or something... I found an eBay listing for it:

Awesome, thank you very much! Wow, lots of stuff on this one... And a demo of Soccer/Football Mania? Never knew that even existed. Thanks!

I'll try to get the two unuploaded discs I have online next chance I get.

Mind putting that up on MediaFire? I'd like to play around with it.

It's the complete, standard game, just with a promotional launcher tacked on. I won't be uploading an entire commercial game like that, as it's not abandoned (I've seen re-releases of LEGO Island on store shelves within the past five years, let alone ten years, in two-packs and four-packs with other older LEGO games), but I'll get some screenshots of the launcher.

Hello everyone,

This is an old topic but I need your help.

I'm looking for the Nestlé 2000 BIONICLE Promotional CD1 (Barcodemegamix01) and 2002 RACERS Promotional CD1 but I can't find them nowhere :(

I already have the original BIONICLE CD2 (Barcodemegamix02) and RACERS CD2 but I need the ones described above to complete my collection.

Any help appreciated...

Have you uploaded them anywhere yet? I'd like to check them out.

Yep:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/272yeyefc ... EMO-02.iso
Also mirrored on the Bionicle Media Project, supposedly stored in a temporary place until they sort through all their general LEGO stuff, but they've been at this address for a while now haha:

(Oh, and I'm not ignoring the post before yours; we discussed that stuff on another forum, linking in case anyone else is curious)
