Get Gadgets back in Windows 8 RTM
Get Gadgets back in Windows 8 RTM
I thought I should post this in a new topic, because there are various methods scattered throughout the first Windows 8 RTM leak topic.
---
Some of you may have noticed that Microsoft removed Windows Sidebar in Windows 8 RTM. The reason was because they were a security threat. However, if you don't care and would like to re-enable them, follow these instructions:
1) Go here and download the file.
2) Copy "files" folder and "install.cmd" to your system32 folder.
3) Run "install.cmd" as an Administrator.
4) Delete "files" folder and "install.cmd".
5) Enjoy!

The NASA Live TV gadget is from RentedMule, download here.

Re: Get Gadgets back in Windows 8 RTM
Feed gadget works fine here, but I used my own installation method.
Is it even allowed to post files from a RTM OS on BetaArchive?
EDIT: download link requires sign up.

I think it's okay to post them. And sorry about the sign-up thing, I didn't know.Pukkie201195 wrote:Feed gadget works fine here, but I used my own installation method.

Re: Get Gadgets back in Windows 8 RTM
Tried this on a clean, untouched installation and the Feed gadget works fine.
Re: Get Gadgets back in Windows 8 RTM
Yeah, just tried the Feed gadget again and it works. The other times I tried it, it just showed "Loading" and stayed like that.

I don't know much about themes, so I tried copying the aero style from the RP to RTM, but it didn't work. Please, please work on getting Aero back.

Re: Get Gadgets back in Windows 8 RTM
Well I have absolutely no other gadgets besides the default ones (excluding your countdown one and RentedMule's NASA TV). However, I think it's a good idea to get people to upload gadgets they've obtained so we can still access them.

Re: Get Gadgets back in Windows 8 RTM
Well, I can offer some clock-gadgets.
My favorite is the Windows 3.1 clock (http://winhistory.de/downloads/download ... ock.gadget) .
It is written by a german, so you would have to live with "Uhr" instead of "clock" written there. Everything else should be no problem.
He also wrote:
Binary Clock
LCD clock
LED Clock
LED Date and how much percent of the year are already "gone"
Mass-Clock
Percent-Clock (Shows the date and the clock, and how much percent of the current year, month, day , minute are already "gone")
French Revolution Clock (Shows time in the format they used during the french revolution (1day = 10 hours = 100 Minutes = 100 Seconds ; For example: 12 o'clock gets 5 o'clock)
and the Windows 3.1 clock

Sorry about that. I re-uploaded it twice these last two days and both got taken down by LeakID. I don't know who they are, but I've uploaded it to my Dropbox. Try the link again.CabaProductions wrote:It says:

http://www.leakid.com/ They seem to specialize in finding pirated files.
Re: Get Gadgets back in Windows 8 RTM
What!? My files are completely legal!
Re: Get Gadgets back in Windows 8 RTM
Technically they're not. The desktop gadgets are part of Windows 7, which is copyrighted and illegal to redistribute.

Re: Get Gadgets back in Windows 8 RTM
UPDATE: It seems Google Chrome version 21.0 (or higher) have a new malware protection feature to download that unknown file and after downloading, Google Chrome recognizes is malicious, so after downloading, if Google Chrome says that file recognizes is malicious, if that file is not malicious just click that small down arrow, and select Keep.
Also, that old link redirects to clownsong.com
