[Log] Hallfiry's Magazine Collection & Cover Disk Catalog

Post by Hallfiry »

I went to the recycling yard today (very friendly people there) and looked inside the CD box. And what did I find there?

I agree with you here, albeit many of these are demo discs they might contain some interesting stuff.

Yeah, this is something I would love to give a whirl as well.
You can use torrent's magnet links to share stuff without having to resort to a tracker and it's pretty convenient to do (plus you can balance load very easily once it's done)

Couldn't find any demo, but there might be some E3 videos or so.

There are lots of prerelease demos and such things. For example I saw a selfrunning Forsaken demo (from October 1997), that had a lot of demo code, including references to ECTS and E3 and it also mentions the original title of the game: "Condemned"
I couldn't crack the demo so it doesn't perform a selfrunning demo, yet, but as soon as it doesn't start itself, we can host network games, join them, play demo level and more (the demo has only 1 level though...).

EDIT:
Ok, here's the plan:
Tomorrow I'll index all CDs and upload the catalog file. When somebody needs a specific demo, video, etc., he or she can post here and I'll upload the file.
I'll also try to upload the CDs to zippyshare (maybe in 100mb parts, so uploading isn't too painful), but it will take ages (1995-1999 are ~60 CDs, each nearly 700mb, which are 42GB and with my connection it would take ~100h to upload them all...)

Zippyshare is very useful.
I'll upload all CDs slowly within the next weeks.

I'll blog here about newest additions. I've got about 400 CDs to upload ;)
(The folder structure already gives you a glimpse of what you can expect)

April 13, 2012:
-PcGames: Greatest Hits 1994
-PcGames 02/95
-PcGames 03/95
-PcGames 04/95
-PcGames 06/95
-PcGames 10/96

Is there any way to have a full list of all the game demos without downloading all the CDs?

As I said, I'll index them tomorrow. Right now I'm to busy, studying for an exam.

I'm quite sure, the betaarchive ftp is not the right place for them.

But surely not for ripped magazine CDs, that aren't guaranteed to contain Betas ;)

yes -.-

But I want them publicly available and upload to the ftp isn't faster than to zippyshare. So I'll upload them on zippyshare in my public folder and if you really need them on the ftp: upload them yourself.

When 1995 is done, you can choose the next year that I'll upload.
we still have 1996-1999 (and ofc many others, too and other magazines, but first I'll upload PcGames)

EDIT: The CDs that I couldn't rip as images will follow as direct copy.

I'm still wating for people to request years ;)
if you don't request anything I'll upload 1996 (13 CDs).

Done:
-PcGames CD-ROM 12/95
-PcGames Cheat - Das Power Tool
-PcGames 07/95 (Rescued, 2 files are broken)
-PcGames 09/95 (Rescued, 3 files are broken)
-PcGames 12/95 (1 error, but nothing of value was lost)
-PcGames CD-ROM 06/95 (I didn't even count the broken files anymore... I guess it were 20 files = 60mb)
