[SNES] Pitfall The Mayan Adventure Beta
[SNES] Pitfall The Mayan Adventure Beta
Tested on ZSNES SNES emulator, worked fine.
This is the NTSC version of Pitfall The Mayan Adventure Beta,There are differences between this video game beta and the final version of Pitfall The Mayan Adventure for the SNES video game console,so it is slighty buggy than the final version. Here you read the game description:
Description:Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure is a side-scrolling action game in which you play adventurer Pitfall Harry Jr in search of his father Pitfall Harry. You battle your way through the Mayan jungles - waterfalls - deserted mines and can bungee jump and boomerang your way to safety. There are 13 levels and the action is fast and gripping. You will need to be attentive and quick.Or prepare to die.

Re: [SNES] Pitfall The Mayan Adventure Beta
I loved Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure! I think I got it when I was 8 ^_^
I recently found a collection of prerelease screenshots. I ordered them by version:
http://www9.zippyshare.com/v/55515696/file.html
The most ridiculous shot is this one:
What makes this shot awesome:
-3 different demo versions
-Sega megadrive version (beta?)
-Windows 95 beta

Re: [SNES] Pitfall The Mayan Adventure Beta
Interesting stuff, wasn't there a Pitfall 95 pre-alpha released some time ago?
Re: [SNES] Pitfall The Mayan Adventure Beta
It was on assemblergames, via... megaupload <.<Awooo wrote:Interesting stuff, wasn't there a Pitfall 95 pre-alpha released some time ago?
Re: [SNES] Pitfall The Mayan Adventure Beta
Ah yes, I just found the thread. Someone actually requested a re-up about half an hour ago.
Re: [SNES] Pitfall The Mayan Adventure Beta
Btw, the version names are simply the top left menu Item and in case of the Harry screenshot it's based on the window title.
Some notes on the version:
All versions:
-Health cheat
-Not perfectly cropped
Harry version:
-None of the counters does anything (he's in the middle of the mine 1 level, didn't even try to shoot and didn't collect a single coin)
-Fixed window size
-No "Help" menu item (=> even pre-pre-alpha (pre-alpha had a hlp-file))
File version:
-Counters finally work (he didn't collect a life though, because it's pointless to jump into the secret passages, only to get a life when you have a health cheat anyway, even though he's often just 2 seconds away from collecting a life on the screens)
-Fixed window size
Level version:
-Changable window size
-No "File" menu item anymore
EDIT:
I've just found this screenshot from Winter CES 1995 (January 95)
I never saw these creatures ingame...
EDIT2:
A couple of different version of this shot is used on retail boxes, but I still couldn't find any screenshot or video with them....
EDIT3:
Found them. They appear in a bonus mine cart race level...

Re: [SNES] Pitfall The Mayan Adventure Beta
Sorry for the bump.
I found the 1.0 pre-alpha of Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure. (The version on asmgames was 3.0 and dated to june or so)
The readme dates it to MAY 3, 1995 (so I guess it was used at E3), the exe is dated to APRIL 21, 1995.
No CD audio
http://www2.zippyshare.com/v/79820208/file.html
EDIT:
Single level demo, dated to May 25, 1995:
http://www53.zippyshare.com/v/99041281/file.html
(ignore all timestamps, and I copied the sprites and sounds from the older demo...)
EDIT2:
I'm quite sure that the 1.0 prealpha is the "file" version from the screenshot pack.
Also some notes on that version:
-sound doesn't work even if I do what's in the readme.
-putting the DISPDIB.DLL in System does nothing, putting it in System32 freezes the game
-game thorws a "stop" at dieing, finishing a level and entering a bonus level
-in the temple I managed to get a missing-sprite-error that I should report to the author of the game
-as part of the features mentioned for the file version, the player is invulerable and all weapons are initially set to 99.
EDIT3:
Found some pre-pre-pre-...-pre-alpha stuff:
Summer CES 1993(!) info sheet:
Screens in better res:
Article from maybe November 1993:
June 1994 (nothing new ):
EDIT:
The alpha is on assemblergames again!
but it's not very interesting...

How well does this play on real hardware?
Re: [SNES] Pitfall The Mayan Adventure Beta
The PC version played totally normal and still does on modern hardware, aside from possibly sound issues.DobaMuffin wrote:How well does this play on real hardware?

Re: [SNES] Pitfall The Mayan Adventure Beta
Thanks for the reply. Sound issues have never really bothered me, so I'll have to give this a try.
