The Microsoft Office For Windows 1.0 was a bundle of three applications: Word, Excel and PowerPoint, you can find the first version of Word, PowerPoint and Excel on the FTP server

I vote that eyerolls are banned. They're condescending, and considering the forced niceness of these forums, it only seems appropriate.

I'm staring right at this:

Code: Select all

Microsoft Office 3.0.rar

Is that Office 1.0?
No 8-)

Microsoft Office 1.0 was a bundle of the following version: Excel 2.0, PowerPoint 2.0, Word 1.1
Microsoft Office 1.5 updated the bundle with: Excel 3.0
Microsoft Office 1.6 updated the bundle with: Mail 2.1

It were all seperate applications.
With Microsoft Office 3.0 (we have) it is an complete installation pack.

IIRC Word 1.1 (I don't know if the others too) works on Windows 2.03 but it complains about having too little memory (For me sometimes ran and sometimes crashed Windows). So I really doubt it runs on Windows 1.x, but you can always try ;)

It won't run in Windows 1.x because minimal reqs is Win2, but for me, it perfectly fine runs in Win2.1 /386, configured with extended memory. No crashes, no stucks.

I tried out that 'office 3.0' ISO and... it's bogus.

Image
files all from 2003... uh-huh...

Image
Excel installs and.. shocker it's pre-registered, certainly *NOT* ISO stuff...

Image
Same with word.

The powerpoint isn't compatable with Windows 3.0 so ... that pretty much ended that. No mail client, and it is just a mess... 100% fake all around.

it MUST be fake since if the installer comes from the original CD, the installed copy won't be personalized....

Is it different from Word 2.1?

Experimental CDs appeared as far back as in '85. Retail availability and wide use came in early 90s... So it is possible someone has a CD-ROM from that era. ;)

The first CD actually went on sale in 1982, the first data CD-ROM/drive was in 1985.

That'd sound about right, the first time I saw one was a card catalog ... And it was massive, almost the size of the PC! And slower than crap, but it sure did have a wealth of information... Even back then it was a shame that it wasn't hooked to a BBS or something as you had to go to the library to use it.. It was on some PS/2 that was basically an XT.

Of course if libraries did have indexes & catalogs accessible via BBS there would be a good chance they'd still be running knowing them... :P

But yes, the Windows NT previews & betas were all on CD as it'd cost too much to ship them via floppy. While I didn't get my first CD-ROM drive until 1993 I did have a bunch of CD's as schools/libraries would have drives and you could occasionally break out of the program, eject the disk and copy stuff to floppy....... *hehe*
