It seems you haven't installed the VGA driver yet. But VPC should using the S3 Driver, and it works well on Win95 and Win98, so I think that it may works on Win98 beta2, but I'm using VMWare, it run faster than VPC and have a great performance on memory access.

Looks... weird? The window colors are [censored] up, and notice the spacing:
"Windows 984.10.1546"

Look on MCB. It has the same colors in the English version.

Nothing wrong with the drivers, they are all installed, just open the desktop properties --> settings, set an higher resolution and select an higher colour depth (eg 8-bit to 16/32).
It can ask for an monitor, select as high as you want from the default monitors (I selected the 1024x786 one).

I love collecting and playing with this kind of stuff and have had 98SE in several different Asian languages for a number of years, but unless you are trying to learn a particular language and want to immerse yourself in it they are of limited practical use.

Last week I did a clean install of XP on a Chinese friends laptop and told her I could probably get a copy of XP in Chinese if she wanted it. Her reply was "no way, I want it in English".

You are right! And I think the Chinese version is not very useful for most people in western countrys. just for collecting.
