It does indeed exist, it's basically Windows 7 Embedded, and its codename is Quebec. It hit CTP and CTP2 in the latter part of last year but isn't final yet. It does seem to be getting some promotions and demos though, so it can't be far away.

You missed one:

Windows 96-Nashville
---
Windows Desktop Update, Internet Explorer 4.0
---
Cancelled upgrade for Windows 95; sometimes referred to in the press as Windows 96. Codename was reused for Internet Explorer 4.0 which incorporated many of the technologies planned for Nashville.

NOTE: WINDOWS NASHVILLE WAS NEVER RELEASE AFTER BUILD 999

Re: Microsoft Codenames

Post by The Distractor »

ebildude123: actually, there exists nashville builds greater than 999, they are just not leaked. For example, Nashville v4.10.1265 (build 1265)

I think that Cairo isn't NT4... Cairo imho is a collection of new technologies developed in 1991-96. But NT4 is one of the operating systems, which grew up from Cairo.
I'm sorry for my English... I'm from Russia and studied it only at school.

Wrong. There were never any such plans officially, and there are no proofs that there were some inofficially too. Tiger indeed was the codename of NetShow.

WinPC

I believe that it's actually both, NetShow and Windows Me2 (Millenium Edition 2). Microsoft reuses codenames a lot, and this just seems like another one of those times in which the same codename was used for two products.

They reuse but not use both at the same time.
I think it's the NetShow codename, and not ME 2, in that time ME was the last one and no other 9x build has been planned, only rumours.

NetShow has evidence as reference to NetShow, but not ME v2.
I tend to agree with Daniel & KenOath more, then people claiming it as ME v2.

As David Nucrdale said, there are no proofs that Microsoft planned ME v2. I think the whole Tiger thing is similar to the Georgia myth, as we know Georgia wasn't the codename for ME...

Actually Microsoft re-used the codename Tiger, first time for OS/2 v1.3, second time NetShow.

Why doesn't someone remakes betacollector101's list adding and chronologically organizing the codenames? I've lost count of which are supposed to be real, which are misplaced (or mislabeled) and which are correct.
