The thing that always moves me away from Linux in the end on my lighter end machine is that the web pages render so sloooow compared to windows. Has anyone tried chrome and is it any faster than other common browsers on Linux?

It's still a fully work in progress I am afraid. Nothing works much, apart from the frontend.

Since when do web pages render more slowly? The only browser I've had any problems with on a Linux system has been Opera - It looks up the DNS on every pageload and it crawls; apart from that I don't see a difference though =\

Chrome for Linux is quite bad at the moment. Until they fix it up a bit, use something else like firefox.

Google has no plans to release a PPC port. That doesn't mean somebody else won't, but I wouldn't get my hopes up until Chrome is close to fully functioning for Mac OS X or Linux.

Firefox works on PPC Linux, just in case you didn't know. I like PPC Debian, they've just renamed Firefox to something else because of some Trademark issue and it's the only distro I could get to even install properly on my old iMac G3.

In other semi-related news there is an Intel-only optimized version of 3.5 for OS X out there that supposedly runs faster: http://www.latko.org/downloads/

It's still only alpha and, from what I've heard so far, horribly unstable although very fast. IMO not worthy giving it a try till beta.

I'm already using PPC Firefox 3 on Ubuntu Jaunty.

I want that Windows 2.x port of Firefox that was shown in a fake screenshot some time ago.
