ThePirateBay.org are looking to purchase Sealand. If you've been under a rock for the last few days it's a small AA fortress built in the second world war, and resides approximately seven kilometres of the english coastline, just out of reach of British territory. It's current owners have declared it a nation, and it's up for sale.
So far they've raised USD $17,000 - however they'll need a bit more, other small island nations cost from USD $50,000.

Although it seems entertaining that they would consider this move, the campaign has given ThePirateBay renewed attention across the internet. Before visiting that site I believed that this was just an attention seeking episode, but they may just be able to pull it off, and it'd be the ultimate location to run a piracy site from.
They won't be able to pull this off, it cost too much and pirates generally don't pay for things. However, I hope they do get to pull this off (for obvious reasons).

Surely being pirates they should just sail a pirate ship over there and forcefully conquer it? Forget buying it! Seriously, if this place really is its own country, surely they would have to fight off the invaders with their own police and army, which they don't have?
if you read the offical sealand website, they were invaded at one stage and managed to reclaim it back from the invaders (something like 3 people). It has been involved in some british courts as well and sealand won. Some company does business there i think.
This actually make sense, it's ironic that a warez website cheating companys out of money wants money so that they can avioid all this Clever thinking tho.
