The hacked stuff, uploads with serials provided, warez, duplicated uploads, corrupt archives..

So I expect the cleaned-up version around a amounth of 4-6 weeks.

If it was me and I have so much free times, it would be only around 2 or 3 weeks

Can you please make a folder for the Office versions? I really like to have them and I think i'm not the only one.
I will make the folders needed to keep an ordered structure... I am not going to add a bunch of "bad" releases just because I can. You can access the abandonware Office versions already, and I'll add whatever other Office version I can from the old archive. But I am not yet adding Office 97 or newer. If you need that you will have to look elsewhere for the time being.

I didn't say never, just not now. I can't do everything at once, I do actually have other priorities at BA as well, and also other stuff to do. I prioritize betas first. Abandonware is less important, and I believe I released most of the "important" ones. If you want Office 97 it's easily found on the "net".

I will release it some day to BA, but not now, and for several reasons.

Exactly how big is the "Old Archive"? I saw 81gb earlier in the thread, is that correct?

Thanks, I'll sort it through. I don't think we will keep all those releases, but I'll repack what I can from it. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the offer, but you don't have the winrar settings I use to pack up all these releases. And for the sake of consistency I prefer to repack everything myself so I can with a clear mind say that everything has been checked and packed by me =D. And I don't think we will keep those ccleaner stuff anyway. It's freeware software, it's not widely known nor is it even any good =). We can't keep every piece of beta and build of every freeware software out there... So some releases that are practically unusable or unknown will have to go.

Aren't these settings you have posted in the BetaArchive FTP Upload Log and edited when the MD5 checksum rule came?
- All releases are packed up with WinRAR 3.71.
- All releases are packed up with a 5% recovery record. This way you can recover the archive yourself if you get minor bit errors.
- All releases are packed up into ONE individual archive. This simplifies managing and FTP listing. Use a client that supports resumes.
- All releases gets a MD5 hash calculated which is put in the file _checksum.md5 in each folder. You can use this file to make sure your release is 100% authentic.
- A release will only be made available to the public once it's been verified, renamed, uploaded (by me) and MD5 hash verified (by Andy).

Yes, but I also add some other stuff to it. Still, I repack everything even if it's already packed up.

Don't really need to keep all those CCleaner builds, you can still get them from the CCleaner site.

Yeah, that actually goes for most freeware and open source applications, like Paint.Net and so. They are usually widely spread so they are always easy to find.

Regardless, we can't keep every beta of every tiny app on the net, especially not if it's common open source or not.

Anyway, the old archive is no longer available to the members. I will continue my work on it, so expect more releases from it in the future. And if any member has any questions about an upload or repack please PM me and I'll answer as quickly as I can. If you want any particular release from it to be prioritized for a repack let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Do not request copies of the old archive, it's been up for a very long time now and everyone has had a chance to grab whatever they were interested in from it.

mrpijey wrote:My point being is that Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 can all be installed without a serial and run in trial mode until you are forced to either register or dump it. It makes it kind of shareware where you have to pay to continue using it, but you can try it for a limited time. This should make the ISO:s practically free for distribution. I am going to ask Microsoft and see what their policy is regarding this.
I recently e-mailed Microsoft Online Customer Service with some questions on what their policys and copyright laws were on various things, here's what they had to say about that:
This would be considered to be a breach of the license terms of the EULA/MSLT if you’re talking about an ISO/image created from a deployed fully licensed version of the software. Microsoft has released an evaluation 30 day trial of Windows Vista Enterprise (which is available for download here); if a customer wants to evaluate Vista they should do via the provided trial software.
On most of my question's he refered to the EULA, which I read a while back, basically everything on the server is illegal as the creation and distribution of those ISO's is a violation of the EULA...

*Not that we should stop this whole thing just because its illegal, if MS wanted us finished it would've happened a long time ago.
