Hello all,

As you probably just noticed, MySQL went offline for almost an hour. Well I was upgrading it, as I've been trying to find time to do over the last couple of days. Well what a bitch it is!!! My solution?

1. Delete the fucker
2. Install FRESH mysql5
3. Copy the data folder
4. Restart service
5. [censored] right!

:D

Ah the joys of being an Admin... I do hope you will excuse the profanities but it was really annoying me.

Now, do I get a cookie for doing this or do I get bread and water? Hehe.

Let me know if you encounter any problems after this upgrade.

Andy (Admin)

A suggestion:
IF the forum goes offline for something, even if you have it posted above the forum.

I think you should also post a notice when it's offline on the Home page.
EG: http://www.betaarchive.co.uk/index.php
Just under the Who and What is betaarchive.

But I agree, mysql can be an pain in the ****.
And glad it's over (hopefully).

EDIT: **** to ****

Something has happened to the Wiki, and I can't figure out what it is. To me it looks like the DB is just "gone" but the DB files look the same even on a backup from may this year... :S I don't get it. I'll keep investigating.

AFAIK MediaWiki is sometimes picky about php and mysql versions...
But i would rather say it if you were downgrading mySQL or PHP...

Well the fact nobody reported it not working, if it wasn't, shows how much it was used. Personally I don't use it, but I know some people put a lot of articles on there and obviously I don't want to lose them if I can help it.

Are you using latest version of MW? If not, you could try to upgrade it now...

No its not the latest version. Frankly it was a pain to get this one working. Its so under-used I'm thinking of ditching it anyway. We can always make a new forum section for articles that were on there.

No, it wasn't so bad... we just hadn't read the manual while we were setting it :P
But i agree the administration panel is poor. But on every other point MediaWiki is the best software of this type IMO.

And i know it was under-used. But i loved it. It became a place i used to write much. I also learned much when writing those articles (i've used to make a lot of research before) & by just reading what was already written. We have here some great contributors to BA Wiki. Hounsell ,___, WinPC and recently Emir added a lot of valueable informations. ;)

Andy forgot to censor this one...

========

By the way, I noticed that Uptime, Memory and Bandwidth meters are down. Currently:
UP: Error | CPU: 14.9% | MEM: 0MB, Used: 0MB, Free: 0MB | B/W: DL: 0Mbps / UL: 0Mbps
I don't know if it's part of the upgrades.

Also, I think that was a hardware upgrade, not software upgrade. :P

Don't guess about things you don't know about. I have not performed any hardware upgrades. I have performed software updates only. I am aware some things still don't work, but had you been reading the site recently, you'd know why.

Say... It was the ARP attack that compromised the security of the database?

(*I will no longer try to guess*)

If you bothered to read the entire topic you'd know exactly what happened. Stop guessing.

Well, I just realised what happened to the wiki database. The server was using a different database type than what it should have used (INNODB not MyISAM). I do have an idea on how to recover it, since I kept what was left of the database intact, that is of course if the DB is still present in the MySQL setup. I found this because the forum, now converted to phpBB3, wasn't backing up its database. The reason being there were no MYI files being created, because the database type was INNODB not MyISAM. This is now fixed and backups are being performed normally.
