I used to use iconpackager, back when how pretty my os looked was my highest priority.
If you got your version of Iconpackager from a torrent, I would advise you check your AV program, or install one, as when the newer build of Iconpackager was released, a version of it with some pretty nasty spyware flooded the torrent community, and now it's pretty hard to find a safe Iconpackagger torrent. If you were using a safe version, or the trial stardock offer, check to see that your shell32.dll has not been corrupted, and if your using xp, use the "rebuild icon cache" function in tweakui.
EDIT: Also, what exactly do you mean by destroyed?

Damn. I got a safe one first time. Must be luck, or plain common sense.

Not that I was pirating it.

Also, as you uninstall it, you will lose any custom icons you set, but the registry entries may still be left pointing to them

A good once over with CCleaner usually does the trick when it comes to invalid registry entries.

before you uninstall Iconpackager, you should reset the original scheme BEFORE uninstalling, that way, the Icon Cache doesn't have the old icons in it anymore
