XP Pro to Media Center?

Post by Orry Verducci »

Is there a way to easily convert XP Pro to Media Center 05, as I can't afford to buy the full version. I saw a converter on the server, however when I ran it on a virtual machine with a fresh XP Pro install the installation had many errors and then ended up with Media Center not working properly and the OS still IDing as XP Pro.

There's one called AnyMCE that is reported to do the trick, although I haven't tried it - is that the one you're using. Or just, err, *find* a copy of MCE (there's an easy way to make MCE accept XP Pro VLKs and not need activating, if you need that) - obviously we can't help you find any of these things but they're out there

Windows XP had these editions:-
1. Windows XP Home Edition
2. Windows XP Professional
3. Windows XP Starter
4. Windows XP MCE
5. Windows XP Professional X64.

Each one has its own license agreement. It clearly specifies not to make any changes in any version.

Windows XP Professional to Windows XP MCE is an illegal conversion and I have witnessed some others converting it to a Tablet PC Edition.

It seems that Microsoft could make these converted editions as non-genuine.
