Anyone know of a longhorn x64 pre-reset WIM repack?

Post by Bulletinum »

Hey, so I am working on a custom longhorn build (for fun), and today is all about x64, and the WIM image format makes customizing windows easy. So I'm just curious, are there any WIM repacks for longhorn build 4074 or 4051 64bit? Because they are in i386 form and thats annoying. If there are any WIM repacks, please tell me, and if possible do link me to a download! Cheers.

Nobody really ever cared about the 64 bit build because they were so lacking.
Creating a custom install with the classic install routine is more "annoying" yes, but much more versatile.

You don't need do a repack of 4051 and 4074 builds, because these builds uses i386 setup engine

Samuka, OP wants to make a repack TWIWMTB and Sigma OS style.

Build 4083 would probably work best for that then.

Oh.... now i understand. Is a good idea, can use "my" setup engine based on Vista 5231 and Longhorn 4074 hardware search phase.

The best idea for a repack is to use 4083's oobe, sysprep, and find a way to use the oobe to start ngen. This way, if possible, you have 4083's .net capability in a far more stable system like 4074.
Or use samuka's setup engine. But it probably won't suffice for the .net installation during oobe. Meh, you could probably slipstream a newer .net anyhow. No worries about breaking flashy .net components if they weren't there to begin with. Longhorn works fine with .net 2.0, 3.5 is iffy.

Build 4083 has a WIM-based setup, but it is too empty

Yeah and 4083 is a no-no for drivers, but thanks everyone! Ill try to get it into a WIM based setup, and if that fails, I'll just have to use a 32bit setup.

Ok, so instead of going with an older pre-reset longhorn build I am going with longhorn Build 5112 or something within that range (Or I might go for a more stable build and port 5231's explorer.exe to it, because I really like the classic XP-styled start button) However if this doesn't work I'll re-read this thread C:
