vista build 6000 stability/speed/resource usage?

Post by Deathwarder »

As the title states, I am looking for information about the rtm build's speed, stability, and resource usage. Is anyone currently using it?

The one I got off the FTP was very fast compared to RC1, it's using about 500-600 mb ram right now and uses about 6 gig disk space (Vista Ultimate).

Can't say too much about stability, only used it for a few hours, but pretty decent performance, installed all my drivers except webcam, which Windows Update installed afterwards.

its nuked because it was modified with 5840 files and 5744 files.

Quite a few people seem to be saying the BillGates release was modified from the original, but how exactly? Which files are not the right ones? It seems to install and run fine.

Some files are not 6000, like
secproc.dll - 6.0.5840.16389
newdev.dll - 6.0.5054.0

Both in System32.

Kind of weird, why would anyone modify a release like this except to fix bugs?

Are they build 6000 files on the non-BillGates release though? Sometimes a few files slip through with old build numbers, for instance take a look at main.cpl in System32 on XP SP2:

Copyright Microsoft Corp. 1991-1999 [XP files say -2001]
Product Name: Microsoft(R) Windows 2000 Operating System
Product Version: 5.1.2403.1 [a Whistler Beta build number]

also there are files from 5744 if you look hard enough. also comparing the real wim to the billgates wim you would realize that the billgates wim is a bit off.

Which one do you mean? The AIO DVD or the other release? The AIO DVD claims to be "100% RTM", where the other release in the "Vista RTM" folder which is about 2.4GB (it's the BillGates release, right?) seems to contain some older files.

This is the "nuked" BillGates release that's supposed to have some files from 5840 and even 5744. The Vista AIO DVD that's on Andy's ftp as well should be 100% build 6000.
