Windows live messenger beta issue

Post by livelonger87 »

It won't let me sign in. It says "Please upgrade", blabla. GRR!! I want to be able to use the first beta of Windows live messenger

It looks amazing!! I can't even use it because of the stupid force upgrade!! GRR!!

Does anyone know a way around this? I've tried setting compatability to Windows 2000

You need to use a HEX editor or something and change the version number it reports to the server to the latest version. The 'run as 2000' option only works with Messenger 7 and below etc because WLM physically won't run on 2000 or under.

to run any old wlm (from 290) it is very easy

download reshack.
http://delphi.icm.edu.pl/ftp/tools/ResHack.zip
open msnmsgr.exe, in your wlm folder.
version info -> 1 -> 1033 -> at this line:
VALUE "ProductVersion", "8.x.xxxx"

change the old build number to the newest, like this:
VALUE "ProductVersion", "8.1.0178"

press on compile script and than, file -> save.

like this:

now you're done you can use every wlm build that you wish
If you change all other original version numbers to 178 you can also install the newest msgplus live 4.20

This is an old post of mine, you can also change it to 9.0 or 8.5 or anything, but this should work also.
