While most of Europe was asleep, the bods at Microsoft made Windows Live Messenger Beta 8.1.0106.00 available to the whole world for widescale testing. This build is considered to be very close to release quality and comes with a lot of bugfixes. Changes compared to previous (private) Beta builds include:
- The removal from the PSM menu of the Show my location feature.
- An SMS Phone Book added to the dashboard for quick mobile texting.
- Report abuse option in the Help menu.

This build will also be pushed down as an auto-update tomorrow.

Nope. Im using 7.0 as I type this message. In fact, if hacked, any old version of msn will work.

a-patch its a great piece of software. 8)

i like WLM compared to msn 7.0. 7.0 works on 2000 and lower and stuff, but if im running XP, ill stick with the latest because it does look better.

there is a way to make it work on 2000, i think it is just the installer that checks the OS version

Incorrect, any of the MSNP protocols below MSNP9 (I think) have been removed. The oldest supported client is MSN Messenger 6.2.

I stand corrected. I only thought that because you were using messenger v1 late last year.

8.1 works great for me, I haven't noticed a huge difference to be honest but it seems stable enough.

Live is crap...I usually get errors on adding new contacts...
But 7.5 works just as usual...so I uninstalled Live and reinstall 7.5.

btw, all you need to do to let 7.5 run on Win2000 or older system is to hack an .msi file and change the version-checking strings. Now MSN7.5 runs on my Win2000 as usual  Shame on M$ forcing people to upgrade!
