What would be the better GFX card?

Post by Lupin3rd »

The Geforce 6800 Ultra or the Geforce 7800 GS? Both are AGP cards and I am considering upgrading to one of these two. PCIe is not an option really as I'm only intrested in uping my gfx abilaties. The 6800 has more pixel shaders and pipelines but the geforce 7 has the added fact that it is a geforce 7 range which has the updated pixel shader support. any 2 cents is welcome. Regards Lupin3rd

I'd go with the 7 just on the account that it will last longer and get farther with games and such.

The features and the more updated features the more it is gonna be able to handle things correctly.

A little late, but http://www.gpureview.com is a great place to compare graphics cards.. Looking at the specs there, at stock configs the 6800 beats the 7800 on everything but memory bandwidth.. But the 7800GS probably has some pipelines that will be OK to unlock with a tweaking utility. I forget if RivaTuner can do it, but that class of app.. IF that's possible, the 7800GS pulls away from the 6800 and into the sunset.

Why would he want an 8300 over a 7800?
