What's the best deal you've gotten lately?

Post by 4tified »

By lately, I mean within the last few months, but it could be further back than that, I don't care. Personally, the best deal I've gotten (lately) was when I went to the thrift store on the way home from work the other day... I was looking through the rejected/old electronics section and come upon a DVR...not sure if it worked or not, I decided to take the chance anyway. Turns out I can't use the Direct TV DVR (Tivo) until I either Get Direct TV or Hack it and put linux on it. I decided to wait for that and I opened it up and found an 80GB hard drive inside! Still working, perfect condition. Using it as my external drive for my computer. (1 of 6) Not bad for $4, eh?

Just picked up a TI-994A with monitor and voice synth for $1 about 15 minutes ago at a flea market.

I need to go to the people/places you people get your kit from!

Did get a 20GB HDD based Samsung Yepp YH-920 mp3 player from someone for free the other day though because it was "broken". He'd been reluctant to give it to me because he knew I'd fix it and use it, eventually he offered it to me and I took it.

Fixed it with the iPod business card fix, works great now.

There's another deal I forgot to mention...

(x2) Cisco 3500 Series Switches (With Gigabit Expansion GBIC's)

(x1) Cisco 2950 Series Router

(x2) 3COM Hubs

(x1) HP NetServer LP (Twin 600mhZ PIII's), 640MB RAM, dual 10,000RPM 9 GB SCSI 2 Drives

(x1) GIANT Black, VERY SLEEK Server Case with Dual 500MHz PIII Xeons (2MB Cache Total), w/ 1GB RAM, DVD-RW Drive, two 3-channel RAID cards....need I go on?

A GIANT Rackmount APC 2200XL UPS...weighed 200lbs and uses 240Volts. (Retails for $1500)

8-port KVM switch.

CRAP Load of other components...I don't even remember what I got....enough to build a few computers at least.

I paid nothing for it... a guy was giving all of this stuff away free because his company gave it to him, but he needed to get his garage space back.
I ended up selling everything for about $1,000, just in time to pay the rent after losing my job....wish I could have kept some of it though.
