The alpha 0.1 I am guessing was never leaked or shown to anyone outside of ID software?

Nobody outside of ID software has V0.1 Alpha.
Anyone who says they have it are lying for attention.

This doesn't proof that anyone have this alpha at all. 8-)

Exactly, it proves nothing! Besides, it is a wiki, you can not trust info on a wiki because it is contributed by the community who 90% of the time say things that are not true for attention.

iirc 0.2, 0.4 and 0.5 were officially released by id, not leaked.

Actually it was released to Beta Testers then it was leaked by the testers.

But id Software doesn't care now and allows them to be distributed

Yeah, yeah, the good old DooM betas. Show quite a different game. In the beginning you weren't meant to be alone but be supported by up to three fellow marines. And the score system, everyone knew from wolf3d, was in there even in the latest beta. With this decision ID surely choose in favor of action. However the bayonet was a cooler first weapon than the fist with the knucks. And one can only guess what the "shields" in the first beta were.

These are a good piece of history. Can be recommended to everybody interested in the early fps games.

I haven't played this in years, will definitely have to check this out again. No doubt will bring waves of nostalgia. :D

Ah, the Doom 1 alphas :D I remember playing them on my friend's ibm pc back in the day. Used to live in an apartment & my neighbor's older brother was an official beta tester (they had a computer & internet access & my family didn't have either of those until 1996). I'm pretty sure those betas were my first FPS experiences. So awesome that they run in DOSBox (with the Boxer frontend (http://boxerapp.com/) without any problems :D

I could never get the .2 alpha to work in DOS or anything. Is it looking for a specific configuration?
