I got a laser printer w00t

Post by Bender »

I got a Brother HL-1440 Personal Laser printer for free. It warms up, I put paper in and it prints fine, but there is black toner residue covering the whole page.

Heres a scan of a printout sample

I dont know what else to do. Can anyone help me with fixing this?

Inside the printer there should be a removable piece of plastic with a sort of cotton material on it. It goes over the rollers for the page and removes residue ink. Take it out and clean it, let it dry properly and put it back in.

If there isn't one, then I don't know what you could do.

I got a free HP color laser.
Double sided printing works beautifully.

Where'd you get a free color laser printer?

Stop the arguing. I don't care, and Im sure everyone else doesn't care who whose friends work for what company and who posted what. Keep the conversation civil or Ill simply lock the topic.

Well the person saying you might want to take note of who posted it. That line starts a lot of arguments.

Ehh, my bad... different atmosphere here to some of my other hangouts... I'll try to keep it in check.

I printed a blank sheet, and it still had black s**t on it.

Easy! 9/10 problems with a repeating vertical black pattern is down to the drum. I'm not too familiar with that particular Brother printer, but the earlier in that range had a separate drum and toner. Later models had a combined drum/toner (like most, if not all, modern lasers do).

Seeing as the drum and toner are consumable items, I'd replace them first. If those don't solve it, it's the image transfer roller (what looks like a long 'rubbery' tube. A word of advice though - DONT touch it! Even brief contact can and will make it worse!)
