Preferred OS

Post by ___ »

What OS do you prefer and why?

I prefer XP to all the others, mainly cause it runs a lot better than Vista and i think it is much easier to use than the others

I prefer 2000 Pro as i'm still stuck in the Win98 days, & prefer it's
theme's & general layout, even though you can run XP with the classic
theme, it's just not the same..
2000 also chews less ram than XP..
Mind you I have my main system's dual booting 2000 pro & XP pro..
2000 because 80% of my hacks are produced on it.
XP because it detects & runs a crap load more usb devices without the need
to install drivers...

Windows XP because it seems the most reliable OS so far.

Windows XP for a workstation OS because it runs nice and smooth on my Sempron.
FreeBSD as a Server OS because it isn't a memory hog and it runs nice on older pc's.

Windows 2000 is my favorite OS to use, but xp is right up there too. I have used linux but dont like using the comand line much and many programs must be recompiled to work properly.
I have played around with Zeta 1.2(BEOS) and like it a lot but still needs work.

My preferred OS is FreeBSD because it has a big and easy to use port collection, and is also rock-solid.
My second preferred OS is Windows.

I use and prefer Windows 2003, because it's new enough to support my laptop, yet feels more like 2000 (To me, atleast.)

I would use 2000 but I need newer applications like WLM and Office 2007, and also it doesn't seem to support dual-screen configs as good as post-XP does.

For servers I use either Windows 2003 or FreeBSD (Mostly BSD).

I also like Gentoo.

Nobody here likes Vista, or is it just that it's too early to say before it's actually finished?

Only about 3 weeks to go until it goes gold now, by the way (it must be too late to delay it again now, and they said it'll all be done by October 25th)!

Pretty much what he said. My preferred will probably become Vista once it's released.

Windows XP SP2, but only if it's heavily n-lited (since I use n-lite, I would NEVER switch back to the original XPSP2). I won't going forward to Vista until kinda stuff is released for it. (oh yes, and until there'll be a decent Radeon driver for it, 'cause the beta catalyst for vista sucks)

I haven't got a single favorite, but I like Windows NT 4 for it's simplicity and relative stability, GNU/Linux for the openness (being able to configure the kernel and userland down to the tiniest details is just wonderful), and VMS for it's reliability. Windows doesen't even come close when it comes to that.

It's a shame Microsoft has stopped making Windows versions directed at professional users...

well, i like XP the best because its the newest OS i have (that isnt beta) and it runs on all my computers except my compaq laptop (it does, but its useless imo, 2000 does a better job, specially my nLited version )

ill always be a windows user, especially since iv tried linux. i don't like linux, sure its stable and secure. but its slow, harder for a home user like my self to use, and it just doesnt support my hardware that well. im not saying its a bad os, just not for me. thats all. however, i am using linux on my iPod
Asus F8Sn-D1, HP DV2-1044CA, Asus EeePC 1005HA, IBM ThinkPad X40

Yup, me too (unless I can ever afford a new Mac, although then I'd still use Windows for games). I haven't even tried Linux, and don't plan to, based on what I've read and heard about it, and the fanboys particularly put me off going anywhere near it with all their ridiculous reasons why Linux is better and how all software should be free with no copyrights blah blah whatever (this stupid thing I saw recently about how they've decided to rename Firefox in a new version of Linux just because "Firefox" is a trademark or something pretty much sums it up for me)

Windows 2003 for me I think so I chose other... on saying that though I do like OSX Tiger (I'm running the PPC version in PearPC)...

WinXP was amazing compared to XP when I first dumped it on my ol' K6-2 500Mhz machine back in the day but Win98SE rocked before that...

Like few have said already I gotta say I prefer the classic look, themes don't really do much for me these days. I've tried a few, I've used WindowBlinds, I even gave this Win2k3 install the Watercolor theme for a while but I always come back to having just the classic looks... guess I'm just used to it...
