From what I understand, If you purchased an OEM version of Vista you can contact Microsoft support (you may have to pay the support fee) (tell them that you are your own oem,) and they might give you download links to this and to the feature pack for wireless.

I'll try it myself Monday and get back with my results. (If I get the updates I'll post them.)

I found this out by talking to support personnel in the free Vista SP1 support channel, they told me that yes i could get them, but I was in the wrong support channel at the time.

Hopefully someone will distribute it because my Vista install is not a legal OEM.

Will this be for any version of Vista or home premium/ultimate only?

I am 99% sure that it will only be for Home Premium and Ultimate as those two are the only ones that have media center and this is just a update (tv pack) that installs on top of it.

I can't believe this won't be released as an update to thoose who already paid for Vista on their machines. What sense does it make to say "[censored] you" to their loyal followers who picked up Vista from the start and stuck with it through all the bad press and bugs? Christ, I've already been somewhat screwed over on the "Ultimate Extras" side, and now this? Also, I didn't even know about this other "OEM Only" update, which HP probably won't be offering me.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942567/en-us/

Obviously, people with Vista will eventually figure a way to get this update, legal or not. Sometimes it's MS's stupid fault when people have to go to illegal measures to get updates to the software they already paid good money for... :x

There are ways to convert Vista to an OEM version if you really want this.

HP has this update, but only for x64 versions of Vista. I'll try contacting HP support to see if there's a 32-bit version I can get.

Could you post a download link for the x64 version, and when you get it, the x86 version?

Apparently there is no 32-bit version available. I also don't know if this will install on non-HP systems, as I don't have any x64 PCs with Vista to test it on. Here's the link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/gene ... R1002_USEN

An interesting thing of note is the version listed at the bottom of the MS article page on the pack: 6.0.6002.18273.mum

Could this be the first bit of SP2?

@Resplendent: I think you mixed up something. This thread is about the Media Center 2008, you posted a link to the feature pack for Wireless.

EDIT: was too slow... damn :P

The reason I was talking about the Wireless Feature Pack was because this Media Center update is slated to be released in the same fashion: Only OEMs will get it. They'll install it on new PCs shipped after such-and-such date, and MAY make it available to download as a standalone update for those of us who already have a Vista PC. It won't be available though WU or on MS's website. At least this is according to what I've read.

I have no idea why HP insists they dont have the 32 bit version.
I emailed a friend of mine at Microsoft (he's one of the Bluetooth devs) and this is what he sent back:

Quote:
Sorry, I’m not allowed to release software to individuals.

We did ship both x86 and amd64 concurrently, so I don’t know why HP has only released 64bit. You’ll need to contact HP to get that information.

Sorry I wasn’t able to be of more help.

Hi <removed>,
Just a follow up to a few months ago, I checked with my OEM (HP) recently and they are finally offering the feature pack for download, unfortunately they are only offering the 64 bit version. Do you know if something happened with the release of the x86 version? If not, is there any way that you could send it to me?

Thanks
<removed>
