Hey all,

I recently noticed that i have a virus. My antivirus wont start, and if i search "antivirus" on google, or any webpage/programs that have the word antivirus they stop.

I'm right now in linux and i was wondering if someone could give me a program (eg avast linux) that will scan my windows partition.

So its like this,

Antivirus-->Running in linux-->scanning /sda2 (my windows partition)
Remember it has to be able to detect Windows virus's because the virus is a windows virus on my windows partition.

Every virus scanner for Linux out there will also be able to scan Windows partitions for Windows virii, simply because that's the purpose of recovery media and the like. You boot into a clean, uninfected OS and clean your main system. You could give F-PROT or Kaspersky for Linux a try, for example.

Thanks, i'll use that as a last resort

@empireum
I was thinking of getting Avast for linux, because i heard some people saying its good. I will try this "Kaspersky" you recommended. It must be good!
Thank you very much for your help.

UPDATE1:

I've scanned my comp with the CA online scanner and it found no viruses in my C: and D: drives, but my browser still closes on anti virus and i will do a scan for spyware. Anyone know of a good, online scanner for spyware.

Spybot search and destroy. Make sure you update it after you install it.

Format?
It's the only thing I can think of unless you copy A/V + spyware scanner setups from another computer to yours to try and scan.

It probably won't help you, but Rootkit Revealer from Sysinternals will find software that's messing with Windows to hide its existance. I doubt you'd have a rootkit though.

Since your computer is blocking attempts to search for Spybot... I'm uploading for you now a RAR file with Spybot and a set of other tools, which I will rename so that you can get past the filter that's on your machine. With these you should be able to somewhat clean your machine.

EDIT: Here you go, http://rapidshare.de/files/38427102/gra ... s.rar.html :D

In that file there's Spybot, Rootkit Revealer, Autoruns, Filemon, Regmon, Process Explorer, and Wget (which you can use to download files in case your browser is being screwy).

I had this problem a couple of months ago. It ended up a long process to fix it so i just reinstalled like im prolly gonna do again now due to a virus taking away administrative powers and not giving me access to Task Manager, Run......... :x But if i find anything ill post it as i do remember something on it.

Never use safemode with networking your anti virus will not be active nor firewall (unless you have a hardware firewall) and you will be much more open than you are in normal...

If you can download Avast and install it, there is an option that will allow you to scan the HDD before Windows boots. The objective is that hopefully it will pick up any viruses before it's loaded into memory.

For spy-bot search and destroy, try downloading it with Linux, putting it onto a flash stick and try loading it in Windows. If it won't load in Windows, try safe mode. You may have to try safe mode with networking so you can update Spy-Bot.

All Microsoft operating systems!
You could also try removing your hard drive and installing it in a different PC and try searching for the virus there. Don't install the old hard disk drive as Primary, install it as Secondary.

Also, you could take an extra hard drive, install it as Primary, and reinstall the old drive as Secondary. Then install Windows and your Anti-Virus software on your extra hard drive, then search for viruses on the original hard drive, which would now be installed as Secondary. Your Anti-Virus software should scan and remove the virus.
