List of Build Strings?

Post by 4tified »

I know that the Longhorn Alpha builds displayed the full build strings on the desktop, but after Longhorn 5048, they stopped. Is there a place that I can find a list of build strings for all of the the Longhorn/Vista builds and if not, is there a way to find them within the operating system? I know that every version of Longhorn/Vista is different, so some builds have more clues than others. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to update my list of verified builds, once i do that, I'm going to back them up for safe keeping

Well, one more question... is there a way to get the actual Build String from the OS itself?

You should query the File Version info (in Properties) of a crucial system file such as ntoskrnl.exe. This should tell you the complete build tag.
For instance:

This is for an updated XP SP2 install.

Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion and take a look at the string BuildLab
