Just wanted to know what apps you consider essential, i.e. which you consider as "absolutely" necessary on your Windows installs and use (almost) daily or have constantly running. No need to give reasons why, no need to give links, just post a list of your "standard app suite". :)

Mine (trying to keep an alphabetical order):

7zip
AVG
Cygwin
DOSBox
FileZilla
Filzip
Firefox
foobar2000
Foxit PDF Reader
The GIMP
hexed
ISO Recorder
iTunes + QuickTime
MagicISO
OpenOffice.org
PSPad
PuTTY
Tango Shell Patcher
Tweak UI
VLC
VMware
XnView

Curious to see yours! :) And, please no answers like "This app sucks, use that one instead!" or something like that.

Hmmm...well the apps I've installed on my new Vista installation and use quite a bit would be:

Acrobat
AutoRoute
Firefox
iTunes/QuickTime
Microsoft Office 2007
Photoshop
PowerCinema
PowerDVD
UltraISO
VMware Workstation
WinRAR

And a load of other stuff that I use less often but still use: Basilisk II, Daemon Tools, Dreamweaver, Easy CD-DA Extractor, Everest Ultimate, Google Earth, Hotline Client, Mactracker, PDF Password Remover, PE-Builder, Process Explorer, Process Monitor, Qemu, RealPlayer, Resource Hacker, SheepShaver, SmartFTP, TransMac, uTorrent, Virtual PC, Virtual RPC-SE, VistaBootPRO, WinImage etc etc. Plus all my games of course. Nothing I don't use on my PC at the moment as I've just formatted :)

So, yeah, nothing hugely exciting :)

Mozilla Firefox
MPlayer
Nero
Nokia PC Suite
oDC (this should be replaced with a better DirectConnect client)
OpenOffice
QuickTime
StyleXP
uTorrent
Virtual PC
Windows Defender
WinRAR
Yahoo Messenger

The applications that I consider very essential:

1. Microsoft Word XP
2. Outlook 2003
2. VLC
3. Coolplayer
4. Opera
5. Winrar
6. uTorrent

Thats pretty much all I have on my PC (not counting games). Also note that Word is all I really need in an office suite.

No Linux fanboyism, I don't care that KWin and Metacity or whatever weird WM you use - CDE! Did this years ago, this is still exciting.

Here's my "Toolbox" list...
With this intergrated toolbox I can make a newly installed OS "ready for me to use" in several hours.
Originally this toolbox are intended to be able to fit in a 700MB CD...
Then I extended it to 860MB so it can fit into an overburn CD with some extra contents...That's what the "860MB Zone" folder's for.

It's not really an application but I don't get how people use a computer without the Show Desktop shortcut in the Quick Launch. I had to hack the Deep Freeze program at my workstation at school so I wouldn't have show the Quick Launch everyday I went back.

With this intergrated toolbox I can make a newly installed OS "ready for me to use" in several hours.

Do you have an unattened install script for it? I've always wanted to build something like this for Windows. Windows is really lacking in the automation field...

Windows+D (or F11 on Macs). I find it a lot more convenient to use the keyboard.

My list:
Borland C++ 5.5
EXT2 FS driver
FileZilla
FoxIt Reader
GetRight
iTunes
Mozilla Firefox
Nero Burning ROM
Nero ImageDrive (on Vista, Daemon Tools instead)
Notepad++
OpenOffice.org
TightVNC
WinRAR

Nope. I install them manually and depends on what I need on that computer...So I don't always install exactly the same contents on the CD.
