In cooperation with ~killermole23. I wish to present your the Hex method of getting Aero Glass in Home Basic!

All you need to change in Aero.msstyles:

Code:
Find DF DF DF FF and change it with 00 00 00 00

Oh how mighty (Microsoft) have fallen. I wish to thank ~killermole23 for the VSB Method, without him, I wouldn't find this code. Expect a patcher soon.

For more details visit:

Both methods step by step @ Windows Projects Community

This work in both Vista and 7?

Awesome work man, if it works as promised then when I get an Aero capable PC I'll prolly go with Home Basic.

For now only Vista, working on 7 now.

This is a patch revolutionary, because Home Basic is the least bloated and Microsoft just got pwnd with the Home Basic main limit.

Would the VSB trick just not work with 7 too?

It's still useless on Windows 7, since there is no Home Basic out yet.

Why don't you just enable it using registry?

Regedit:
HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/DWM/

Composition = 1
CompositionPolicy = 2

Right click Command Prompt and run as admin:

net stop uxsms
net start uxsms

Never worked for me as much as I've tried it (2 different HB machines)

That just enables Aero, but not the transparency.

I dont get it, this enables AERO or TRANSPARENCY? Cause the way Day2Die posted enables only aero theme without the glass and DWM. I havnt tried the hex method yet.

It enables Aero with Glass transparency. Not just Windows Standard, not just maximized transparency, it enables full Aero like it is in Ultimate. You can see the video @ winprj.net.

My case exactly. It's a shame since Beta builds worked flawlessly with DWM enabled.

Yet, this worked when I tried enabling Transparency for a friend of mine, thankyou :)

There is a file called ei.cfg on the sources folder on the DVD or ISO. If you delete it the installation will ask you if you want to install Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, Ultimate or Starter.

We know :wink:

But he is referring to that it isn't in the store yet.

@marxo.
you can use 7600.16385, it is the RTM that will be in the store.

Weird enough I just did install it. I might try to do something like this on Starter too.

Yes.
Thankfully, VistaGlazz exists, other than that you'll have to use UXstyle or replace the DLL.
I know there's a way to add MCE to HB, I'm looking for it... (using Vista Home Prem, sorry).
