I'm trying to get MS OS/2 1.10 working in VMWare Workstation 6.5.

Notice: OS/2 1.1 won't work on systems RAM > 16 and HDD > 32MB.

KBD01.SYS Trap 0000 was fixed by using old fashioned debug.com:
Code:
F:\>debug KBD01.SYS
-a3b1a
xxxx:3B1A inc CX
xxxx:3B1B inc CX
xxxx:3B1C
-w
Writing 03C8B bytes
-q
F:\>

But it still affected by Trap 000D in either OS2KRNL or other device drivers:

Luckily getting Disk 1 copied before trapped. I unpacked and copied Disk 2 ~ 4 files to correct directory, rename VGA.DLL to DISPLAY.DLL, and writing working config.sys:
Code:
PROTSHELL=C:\OS2\PMSHELL.EXE C:\OS2\OS2.INI C:\OS2\CMD.EXE
SET COMSPEC=C:\OS2\CMD.EXE
LIBPATH=C:\OS2\DLL;C:\OS2\SUPPORT;C:\;
SET PATH=C:\OS2;C:\OS2\SYSTEM;C:\OS2\INSTALL;C:\OS2\SUPPORT;C:\;
SET DPATH=C:\OS2;C:\OS2\SYSTEM;C:\OS2\INSTALL;C:\;
SET PROMPT=$i[$p]
BUFFERS=30
DISKCACHE=64
MAXWAIT=3
MEMMAN=SWAP,MOVE
PROTECTONLY=YES
iopl=yes
SWAPPATH=C:\OS2\SYSTEM 512
COUNTRY=001,C:\OS2\SYSTEM\COUNTRY.SYS
DEVINFO=SCR,VGA,C:\OS2\VIOTBL.DCP
SET VIDEO_DEVICES=VGA
DEVICE=C:\OS2\POINTDD.SYS
DEVICE=C:\OS2\MOUSEA05.SYS TYPE=MSPS2$
DEVICE=C:\OS2\PMDD.SYS
SET KEYS=ON

And I can boot into GUI mode, but after a few seconds it was trapped 000D again.

Additional information on booting MS OS/2 1.10 installation disk:
  • VMWare Workstation 6.5: works for a while, after that TRAP 000D/000C
  • Bochs 2.3.7: TRAP 000D/000D
  • QEMU: hangs in boot sector
  • Parallels Workstation: (same as QEMU)
  • Connectix VirtualPC: (same as QEMU)

Good luck with that, OS/2 1.1 won't work in VPC either. Try using PCem or Bochs emulators. PCem can emulate very old computers like a IBM XT.

Both of them tried without success. :(

Are you sure? PCem can emulate many old systems, not just one. You may have to try different systems with different BIOS, different versions of MS-DOS, etc. If you don't have the files needed to emulate different systems I can get them for you :)

Every configs in PCem were tried but none of them even boots to installer prompt.
Some of them hangs after BIOS messages, and some of them shows OS/2 boot message and then PCem dies.

I've just got Tom's reply about this:

Hi Roy

OS/2 doesn't run on PCem yet. I have been working on this, but real life has intervened, so PCem is on the back burner for the moment.

Cheers,
Tom

with andrew_w's DISK01.SYS (fc diff in viewtopic.php?&p=146802#p146802 ) besides my KBD01.SYS patch, OS/2 1.1 works in VMWare.

Nice job! Could you perhaps supply a vmware image of this pre-installed? I'd like to take a few screenshots of my own... :)

Perhaps there should be a guide written on how to properly install this in VMWare (or any other working VM).

Uploaded.

for proper installation guide, it seems to be unlikely because patched DISK01.SYS disables floppy access.

Trying to use a VM with the included hard drive file and 32MB RAM in VMware Workstation 7.0 yields the following results:

Code:
The system detected a internal processing error
at location #0218:601A.

The system is stopped.

You have to use 16MB RAM only, no larger than it.

As roytam1 said, this patch is only useful for running pre-installed systems. However, I'm working on trying to fix Bochs 2.3 to allow installation of OS/2 1.x. I'm not at all sure of the nature of the bugs involved yet, though. I'll post an update when I know more.
