Hey kids...

Go ahead and look here for an interesting spin on Darwin, the UNIX underpinnings in Mac OS X!

http://puredarwin.org

I am a contributor to the project and it is coming along smoothly. The project essentially is all about taking the bits and pieces of Darwin that Apple has available as open-source and creating a standalone OS out of it. Very cool and it is currently in beta.

Interesting, I'm a formal Windows Users, and haven't had much or any experience with any OS X operating Systems. This should help me leap forward.

Sure, and best of all... this is 100% legal. It isn't like OSx86 since this is all open source. :D

Hi,

What is the chance that you can get a "real" OSX interface on it ?

Hmm... interesting question. I don't know. I'll try to get back to you on that.

Muyo cool project. GNU/Darwin and OpenDarwin tried to do something similar but those attempts were pretty basic, this looks more thought through. :)

It should theoretically be possible by porting over GNOME and some other Linux apps. gOS creates a near-perfect facsimile of the latest OSX interface this way.

well... i'm sure sure that it would be quite populary if they added a osx interface, and while they are add it, give it xrdp by default also

Things to add:
* a OSX Interface (since linux is no match for windows on desktop, OSX is)
* xRdp - allow people to RDP into their Puredarwin box
* Add codeweavers crossover - allow people to run windows applications on it
* Add support for running OSX applications
* Give a good, clean suite of applications (unlike linux where you get 4 ftp clients, 3 web browsers.. keep it clean.. keep it simple
* Prepare a emulator image so people can eval. the software and give good feedback

Ps.
I'm a project manager of the WebDesktop startforce.com, so take it from someone who knows.. this project can rock.. if you stay on the course and think big.

If their goal is to more or less recreate MacOSX from Darwin and OSS parts they'd probably be better off talking to the guys from GNUstep and seeing what they can do start porting and customizing that to be more like MacOSX...

Doing it this way would also make you more compatible with the actual MacOSX in functionality and not just looks, which might take longer but if done right it might one day be possible to have a crossover office type interface to install OSX applications in this OS and run them natively...

Or have I missed the whole thing somehow?
