The project is cancelled for now. Maybe I will try it sometime again, but for now, please stop asking for the beta.
I'm making a kind of unoffical service pack for windows XP. It will have this features:
- Direct X 10 - A sidebar - The vista startmenu - The zune theme - Some live applications - IE8 - Some updates - Windows Advisor
I have only a few questions:
- Does someone have the microsoft future pack (I remember it was a time ago on Connect, but now it isn't) - I installed Live wave, but haven't live moviemaker. How can I install it? - What are some other good extra things?
Edit 16-10-08:
I'm getting far with the project. I think finish the first beta of my project on the end of this week. Are there any perons who want to test it out? (I will give you then also a link to the site of microsoft from where you can download legal (they made it) a VHD copy of windows XP, that you can use up to december. Some functions of my service pack won't work, because microsoft turn some functions off, but the general things will work)
New features:
- I'm going to use marxo's loginscreen (If he think it's ok) - I'm going to install .net framework (the newest version) - I'm going to install whole live wave (so messenger, writer, family safe, only toolbar not) - I will change the bootscreen - Change automaticly update to only costom - It will be a service pack, not a new version because that is illegal (so far I know) - I'm going to install Microsoft PC Advisor Repair Utility on it (when 4512jth has uploaded it to the server) - It will contain some new Themes, and a patch that you can use themes that aren't made my microsoft - It will have vista sounds (good?) - It will have vista/7 icons(good?)
Project is at 75% to next Beta

Well, when the final version of IE 8 is released, I am going to do a little project based on XP SP3. I will first install it, install .NET framework 1, 2 and 3, install a sidebar app similar to the Vista one, install IE 8 and WMP 11, and WinFS Beta 1 refresh. I also have an aero jade/slate theme designed for XP I will use as well. I will also change the style of logonui.exe. Finally, I will sysprep the installation, and put it in a wim file, like Hounsell did with that protoplex project of his.
I can see including the .NET Frameworks but why WinFS?
WinFS has never worked properly.
Its just a wasted of resources.
But a few suggestions:
- .Net Framework 2 or 3
- Windows Live Messenger
- Some more themes, just the basic ones, like Classic/Luna/Zune/Royale/Embedded + they are all signed themes.
- Marxo LOGIN screen
- Custom Bootscreen
- Disabled Update feature, otherwise all progress you install is lost.
- Let the User choose the key.
Maybe also incorporate Office 2003 at least or optional 2007.
- Don't put IE8 in it until its a stable build (the final).
Also try to use as many stable program's not beta ones.
Also 1 last suggestion:
Choose the right language, ENGLISH or another languages (but choose english because then it's benefisial to everybody who can english).
Maybe if it works, created an .WIM packet of it, and let it install like Vista or XP FLP.
Then you can just click, enter product key, click where to install and then Install and after after installation it's ready to use.
- I'm going to use marxo's loginscreen (If he think it's ok)
- I'm going to install .net framework (the newest version)
- I'm going to install whole live wave (so messenger, writer, family safe, only toolbar not)
- I will change the bootscreen
- Change automaticly update to only costom
- It will be a service pack, not a new version because that is illegal (so far I know)
- I'm going to install Microsoft PC Advisor Repair Utility on it (when 4512jth has uploaded it to the server)
- It will contain some new Themes, and a patch that you can use themes that aren't made my microsoft
- It will have vista sounds (good?)
- It will have vista/7 icons(good?)
Only, what is WinFS?
I can't install Ms Office, because that is illegal. I can use open office or an other opensource, but I don't know if everybody want that.
I've put by 2 things (good?) behind it. Than I don't know if i'm going to do that.

You could always add the download links to the start menu, as we had in vista???
That way the user gets to choose (and, yes, I know that we're getting like win 7 but hey ho!)
@zeehonden_3: I'm creating winver/classic logon banners. I'm starting now. As "Future Service Pack" is too long, I decided to use "Professional FSP"/"Home Edition FSP"/"Embedded FSP" (if you don't know, there's an Embedded banner, at least on my Professional install).
EDIT: Here are them. Sorry for the font - I'm using Arial with matching font sizes but the version (Pro/Home/E) is smoothed, and I can't beat them exactly.
Also, I have a suggestion: use a transparency software (I recommend TrueTransparency, google it) (-edit- Vista Orb was already on the first post)
Also, I think marxo's banner is better, I like the first one.
@zeehonden_3: Many Vista things (toolbar, icons, themes) you can rip off from Transformation Pack. Also, it's better to keep autoupdate off, because some updates breaks modified things (eg. Software Distribution Services 2.0 suddenly replaced shell32.dll without warning when I used to use Transformation Pack).
