Please could somebody tell if me if it possible to port the slate theme to Windows Longhorn Build 3718, and also Build 3683 and Build 3706? Also, is it possible to port the plex theme to Builds like 4051, 4053, 4074 and 4093?

Thankyou!

Kol made/ported all sorts of themes from Longhorn builds over to XP. It's been so long since I've used any builds of Longhorn I can't remember which one is slate. You might try this though: http://-kol.deviantart.com/art/Longhorn ... -0-9380004

Also, if you like that theme, you can always use the Zune theme, which is similar enough. It's a free signed theme right from Microsoft: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=75078 (starts a download, I couldn't find the actual page on Microsoft's website).

There is also Royal Noir which looks pretty similar (a black version of Royal from Media Center), it's also signed and from Microsoft. Read about and download it here: http://www.istartedsomething.com/20061029/royale-noir/

There is the Nile theme but all it does is icons and background so whether or not its much of a theme is debatable

I posted a link to a package that contained a number of Longhorn themes including Slate here. Just download them and copy them to the C:\Windows\Resources\Themes directory.

Royal is actually the name of the theme that comes with MCE.

Also, the word you are looking for isn't theme. I think it's "Visual Style".

Signed Visual Styles not include Nile, but as far as I know from that first list above, all of the others are signed themes.

I am guessing that because Microsoft were going to have a Home Edition and Professional edition of Longhorn, like XP, they were going to have the plex theme in the Home Edition and the slate theme in the Professional edition?

:o That looks great! :) The only problem is that the taskbar and sidebar are still slate style. :( But nice work anyway! :) Do I just need to patch uxtheme.dll and copy the Visual style thingy into the themes folder or what?

Well, yes, but i dont think well get it, even if you disable all themes (at least for me here) the taskbar&so on are still on slate...

otherways i just used the 4039 theme with the 4039 patches, it worked, but aero doesnt work {which was the goal}...

Royale and Energy Blue are one in the same. Yeah Royale is the name for it in MCE, but it was called Energy Blue when it was released on it's own in the Tablet PC pack.

Are you referring to me and how I called Royale a theme? You did the same thing with Zune and it's nothing more than Royale re-colored:

Also, if you like that theme, you can always use the Zune theme

Not trying to pick an argument here, but don't tell me to call it a visual style when you yourself used the word theme.

I don't think anyone is going to be confused when they're called themes or visual styles

I wasn't trying to argue with anyone, half way through the conversation I just realized that, because we're talking about **SIGNED** themes... the term is actually Visual Styles. Themes don't need to be signed. In fact, signed themes don't exist, anyone can make one. I was correcting everyone, including myself, don't get so defensive over nothing. The theme released for Tablet PC Edition was called Energy Blue but the Visual Style was still just called Royal.

I'll just go ahead and rebuild this list of signed VISUAL STYLES for Windows XP.

Luna
Royal
Royal Noir
Zune
New Windows Embedded (Not Yet Released)

That's all that I know of. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but don't worry, I don't be a complete ass about it unless you're being rude.

The Taskbar&Sidebar resources are contained in a separate .DLL file, imageres.dll if i can recall correctly...

EDIT: I've just checked on my actual installation of build 4074: in imageres.dll there is every resource about both aero and non-aero sidebar & taskbar combination (when the sidebar is disabled taskbar's resources are located in .theme file, just like in XP's/2003's skinning engine). It should be the same in build 4051/4053, and even earlier.
This DLL file also contains some APPA & PPA resources, just to let you know...

EDIT2:

You would have more success on trying to port 4074's aero. DWM's engine changed much somewhere about build 4050, i think & 4039's one is fully uncompatible.

So, if I know what I am doing, I could change the color of the sideabr and taskbar just by editing imageres.dll? Also, could the Build 4029/4039 plex theme be ported to Build 3718? Its just because I think the original plex theme looks crp, you can barely see the close, minimize and maximize buttons like you can with the Luna/updated plex theme and slate theme?

BTW, I think you should change the Code Name Longhorn logo in the winver dialog box to look blue, as I think it looks crp with the plex theme. Its nice you could port the plex theme, its just a pity about the Code Name Longhorn logo in the winver dialog box and the taskbar and sidebar.

You could do that, but why would you when you have this? (And you seem to go on about it enough)

In the Vista release candidates, there was a picture that looked similar to this:

I just found the new Windows Embedded theme on some other forums, threw it on my website: http://www.bitsurge.net/files/Embedded.zip

EDIT: I didn't even realize there was already a link to this, heh. Here you go anyway.

You need to check the date of messages, this was from 2008, not 2010.
