ok so I have a Vintage Pentium III, running the Xubuntu 7.1 OS. well today, I logged into it and I started Firefox, and I just got a kernel panic. when I looked, something in the Firefox executable triggered that Kernel Panic, when I rebooted, even more executables made it crash, eventually it wouldnt even make it to the Xubuntu Login Screen. Now It is messed up, can I please get some help, Even reinstalling didnt work :|

Seeing how you reinstalled and the problem remains rules out software issues. It's likely one of three things, either the machine is overheating, your ram is going bad and last bad hd. The last one is pretty improbable but you never know. :)

I'd start by getting some compressed air and removing the dust, old heatsinks have a nasty habit of trapping dust and lint.

Might I suggest trying other GUI's? Gnome? KDE? that may be too much for your PC...buuuuuut, u can always try something else, does your Windows 98SE install still work?

Actually, yes it does... I guess I should just wipe this part clean and reinstall Xubuntu.

All Ubuntu CDs contain a memory testing application. Simply select it from the CD boot loader menu.

By the way, it's 7.10, not 7.1 (Ubuntu uses dates as version numbers, that's why it started at 4.10).
