Really? If iOS developers ported the apps to W10M maybe the app hell could be resolved.

It would resolve the issue, but the tiny amount of users doesn't make it worth the effort for the developer, since in addition to porting the app they would have to support it as well.

Yeah but W10M is useful for basic social media like Facebook or for basic communications

If you want basic communication, any phone will do. If you want social media, pretty much any smartphone made in the last 5 years will do.

Even if Windows Phone is "dead", i'm fallen in love with Windows Phone

WebOS is actually DEAD because you can't even activate it or download any apps.

But Microsoft has discontinued Windows Phone Check this. Microsoft killed Windows Phone to let Windows 10 Mobile in it's place, and these devices could have the same destiny (If they don't become better than other OSes or get a significant market share). Of course I am talking about Windows Phone which includes Windows Phone 7, 8 and 8.1 and NOT Windows 10 Mobile Windows 10 Mobile may last more because there are rumors of Microsoft and Snapdragon making an x86 emulator to execute Windows x86 native EXEs into ARM processors (It's native from the OS, of course not natively from the processor) So if that happens, Windows 10 Mobile may last longer. But Windows Phone Lines (7,8 and 8.1) are officially dead (Discontinued and unsupported by M$). Check this article

Saying Windows 10 Mobile may last longer is rather silly, considering everyone has abandoned the platform - users, OEMs, developers and even Microsoft themselves. It's already de facto dead.

I have never ever seen anybody in real life carrying around or using a windows phone. The platform itself is basically on a downward spiral- if you make apps for android or iOS you will most likely be guaranteed to get users. Not so much for Windows Phone. And until Windows Phone has more apps, nobody will use it. It's a Catch-22.

Rumors, rumors... Porting x86 apps would cost too much money for a platform that only a few people use. And even if they would port software, there will be problems because programs were built to use mouse (and modifier keys as well) and were not designed to run on such small monitors with very high vertical resolution.

It's not a rumor that Microsoft emulates x86 on ARM, that's what Windows 10 for ARM does today. But Windows Mobile itself is dead from a market point of view, and MS is shifting all focus away from Mobile and into Windows 10 for ARM.

I have seen plenty of windows phones. You probably will see a lot more in developing countries. I think you would also see a lot of them in India.

Same deal in my area too. Most older guys bought Windows phones primarily because of their nostalgia with Nokia.

I actually find Windows phone interesting though, sad that it did not get too much 3rd party support.

Right now Nokia produces Android phones too, so the users can now switch to Android and keep the Nokia legacy if they want (IMO it's the best option)

That's surprising, I wouldn't think they could compete on price. Either way, it won't be like that for long. Microsoft themselves has confirmed the windows mobile platform is dead a while ago. They're just getting rid of old stock at this point.

Speaking of Windows Phones, one company actually started producing them again: https://virtuallyfun.com/wordpress/2018/09/20/wileyfox-windows-phone-back-in-production/. It's a decent phone (for £ 79) and it runs Windows 10 mobile (although it's not a Nokia phone).

Well, Nokia these days isn't the same as when Microsoft owned it, an European firm called HMD now operates Nokia and makes pretty nice Androids. Microsoft got rid of Nokia when it gave up on trying to use that brand to prop up their Windows Phones, but even just branding them as Microsoft phones didn't work.

Unless Microsoft can make Windows 10 on ARM a success app-wise, which might give them a very small second chance at the phone market, I don't see them trying again. It really was over when Ballmer laughed at the iPhone. The Android project instead took notice and decided that the mobile phone would enter a revolution with the iPhone, and that they should adjust to that. They had the right idea in the long run.

Well, Ballmer wasn't the best CEO ever. He was the responsible for the Longhorn and Windows 8 disasters, so MS couldn't get on time to the phone run, nor I think they'll be able to get there without developers. The only thing MS could probably do to get another chance, is to kill completely Windows Phone and make another phone brand, starting with better decisions, maybe bringing some Windows developers to their phone side with this new platform (E.g. bring them to develop into Windows 10 ARM)

Don't forget Surface RT, Xbox One, Kiln, Zune, Groove, etc. not to mention how UWP was supposed to get Windows on everything but couldn't attract any developers, so Windows stayed on the desktop and UWP has been depreciated for desktop app bridge.

Microsoft has been horrible about supporting the platform and keeping whatever momentum they had going, so I doubt they will actually take ownership of Windows Phone now. Win10 on arm has been a painful launch, and I honestly can't imagine a second attempt in the phone market going well.

Sorry for the bump, but Windows 10 mobile is a crappier version of the Windows 8-ified Windows 7, which is a rebranded Vista, which is a glassified XP, which is a blue 2k, which is a 32bit 95, which is a new 3.x, which is a GUI-based 1.x, which is a glorified DOS shell. It’s still trash.
