I know that the windows 7 beta and rc builds have timebombs in them, but do the post-rc builds expire at some point?

All builds will expire in March 2010.
If they haven't expired yet.

Only 7600.16384 not.

7600.16385 = the RTM
So that build doesn't count here, that is why I didn't mention it.

Yes, it is not RTM
No, it uses RTM key's, which are not leaked yet.

But you can use the ''frankenbuild'' method or several activators around.

What is the Frankenbuild method? I assume it involves taking bits and pieces from various builds? What do the activators do? (Or, on what principle do they work?)

Yes, you can take some files from Betas and then activate with beta keys :P

PS: I really love the name "Frankenbuild" :P

And the frankenbuilds don't expire? Are there guides on how to do this (or frankenbuilds prebuilt on the ftp?)

Actually when using the frankenbuild method they will also expire in March 2010.
Because you use the activation files from an earlier build.

So if you want to use it beyond March 2010, you will need to wait for 11 days and you can download it from Technet/MSDN with Serialnumber and if you do not have it, it would be just a few day's longer while people write an program that ''activates'' it.

Here is the command line:
Code:
net stop sppsvc /y
takeown /f "%WinDir%\System32\spp\tokens\pkeyconfig\pkeyconfig.xrm-ms"
cacls "%WinDir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\tokens.dat" /e /g everyone:f
cacls "%WinDir%\System32\spp\tokens\pkeyconfig\pkeyconfig.xrm-ms" /e /g everyone:f
ren "%WinDir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\tokens.dat" "tokens.bak"
ren "%WinDir%\System32\spp\tokens\pkeyconfig\pkeyconfig.xrm-ms" "pkeyconfig.bak"
copy tokens.dat "%WinDir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\"
copy pkeyconfig.xrm-ms "%WinDir%\System32\spp\tokens\pkeyconfig\"
del "%WinDir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing\tokens.bak"
del "%WinDir%\System32\spp\tokens\pkeyconfig\pkeyconfig.bak"
net start sppsvc
cscript %windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs -ipk 6JKV2-QPB8H-RQ893-FW7TM-PBJ73
cscript %windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs -ato

Copy it to notepad and save it as activate.bat. You just need to grab tokens.dat and pkeyconfig.xrm-ms from build 7264 and put it in the same folder.
