Got bored, installed Longhorn build 4039, took some screenshots:
Link.

*These are mostly to replace the ones currently in the photo gallery, the ones in the gallery at the moment are some I upped back when I first got server access and installed 4039 for the frst time, they're grossly oversized and some are corrupt.

These new screens are also in PNG format, not a grossly oversized as the older ones (These range from 0.4 MB to 1.3 MB, the ones currently in the gallery are around 3.5 MB each.) I made a few half assed attempts at converting them to JPG's, all resulting in quite noticable loss in image quality and not to great a reduction in size (From 10 MB total to 6 MB in total)

Anyway, for some of the newer members who might be considering trying this build out, I talk about it a little in one of the screens.

Got some free time, might install and take screens of 5048, 5112 and 5219 while I'm at it (The 5112 screens in the gallery are also buggered up)

So yeah, heh, meh.

Do we know of any way to get 4039 to install on a machine with sata? I get a BSOD on my main rig, as I do on 4074.

No luck I'm afraid. Could install it in a VM, install my sata controller drivers then image it to my main pc?

Wow, I though Aero made its first debut in build 5048. How did you enable it?

I'm sure it's possible with the VMware 7 preview build

AERO (DWM to be more precise) was present in Longhorn since 4030 as far as i remember. And you can enable it in those leaked builds: 4039, 4066 and 4074. There are a lot of unleaked build in which you can enable it (see at UX.Unleaked). It can be enabled in most lab06(_n/_N) builds, also in some idx_02. See Builds with full DWM And How To Enable It topic for instructions.

Read this post i made a while ago:
viewtopic.php?p=36319#p36319

Oh yeah and if you have an nvidia go7xxx/8xxx videocard (laptop) use these drivers for any longhorn build:
http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/ ... it-compal/
Only ones that worked on 3718 for me (you maybe need to use the modified inf, but that's also in the thread), but are also good for 4074 and i think this build also.

Directx9 cards should work, but not every video driver works, these are the oldest video drivers for my card and only those work, everything newer doesn't.

Yeh i know, but it's cool to see the effects are in there.
Without glass it's actually pretty stable.
