Boot up windows 7. When the animation starts watch your HDD light. Even watch the CPU in VMWARE or whatever. Computer comes to a halt for at least 10 seconds.

Why would this happen? Surely people like faster startup times.

They probably have some lightning fast startups that there hiding until RTM. And BTW its not just me, it happens on 3 pc's i know of, and every vm it gets installed to.

Maybe it's driver initialization?

I tried setting Windows to do No GUI boot and it still take the same time to boot. Also, unfortunately there is no longer any high resolution boot screen like the one in Windows Vista, it is just a blank black screen.

But should this cause the pc to come to a halt? 0 cpu, 0 of just about any activity except whats needed to play the simple animation. Also when you switch to no gui boot you can see it comes AFTER vital parts/drivers are loaded.

I'm just trying to figure out what this is so i can remove it. Nothing wrong with your windows booting a little faster!

If it's a deliberate pause, I would love to remove it, but a deliberate pause doesn't really make any sense.

If didn't notice, this is also in Windows 2000, Windows XP and so on.

The first time it doesn't but the second time it does.

Maybe because it has to synchronize before load?
Or executing some line in some startup .exe / .com?

Its surely not deliberate. Id still like to eliminate this though, if even possible. For some odd reason it bugs me seeing it sit there doing nothing. I know I'm weird. Is there a similar boot analyzer for vista/7?

I posted a bit prematurely, it doesn't work on 7 and I don't know about Vista. I hope we can get something like this for 7. With the multi-threaded boot and delayed-start services it might not matter so much.
