I'm very interested to see how people run their 7 installations.

I have worked out quite a good configuration for me, at the moment, which I shall detail below.

Components that I turn off
[*]Games
[*]IE8 (I use Chrome exclusively, and nothing else I run requires IE
[*]Media features (I use Spotify for music, and VLC for video playback)
[*]Tablet PC Components
[*]Windows Gadget Platform
[*]XPS Services / Viewer.
[*]Homegroup Services
[*]Peer 2 Peer Services
[*]Security Centre
[*]Windows Firewall

Vsual Tweaks
[*]Turn off shadows under windows. Glass shouldn't have shadows!

Superbar & Start Menu Tweaks
[*]Show 5 recently used files in jumplists
[*]Don't search files and folders in the startmenu (only programs & control panel)
[*]I adjust the mouseover time from 400ms to 150ms
[*]Turn off action centre icon

Registry Tweaks
[*]End non responsive applictaions
[*]Large System Cache
[*]Disable Paging Exec

Very interested to see how other people run their installations.

Thanks,

Tim

Pretty much standard.

The Indexing Service is disabled, takes not much RAM, but Disk Usage is more when running this service.

And I use this registry change since Vista:

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/70819-windows-explorer-folder-view-settings.html

It resets all folders to an Not Specified template so that all folders have the same layout (I just need to set it how I want and apply to all folders).
And it increases the cache for the amount of folders with that template.

You can use the .reg to set it as it's in the tutorial, otherwise you can set everything you're self.

Everything stock except on my desktop where I disable DWM. When I play any games on my laptop I have it set to disable DWM. I hardly use any of the built-in applications.

Firefox instead of IE
Winamp/VLC instead of WMP
Pidgin instead of any other IM software
PowerISO/CDBurnerXP instead of the built-in burning
Filezilla instead of Windows Explorer or ftp
XBMC instead of WMC
and WinRAR instead of Windows Explorer
