I was browsing through a computer in my school when I saw something called Windows Terminal Server. And this is not NT 4 Terminal Server Edition, I checked system.cpl and winver.exe and both say Windows XP Professional SP2 as the OS.

You only get that bitmap if you use RDP.

Odd how "Windows Security" doesn't show up in the start menu.

If it was being viewed over RDP like it should be to get the Terminal Server branding, it would have 'Windows Security' in the start menu.

That's in the control panel submenu.

Hmm... I never really noticed that, I should try it in other computers. But that picture was taken with TeamViewer with 256 colors so I guess both TeamViewer and RDP use that bitmap?

It is NOT an seperate installation disc.

To get it, do the following:
- Install Windows XP Pro
- Set Classic Start menu
- Use RDP to login to the computer from another computer
- BOOM, you have it.

Oh.
Of-course you can also edit some .dll file, changing XP Pro to that one.
I am not sure if it is in
- msgina.dll
- Explorer.exe
- Shell32.dll

or something else.

By default every SKU of Windows XP and Higher force VER_SUITE_SINGLEUSERTS by default so there's no such thing as Terminal Server.

Hmm, could this be the next 'Windows Powered'-esque mystery?

In my experiences on some machines you get it, on others it just has the normal XP Pro banner - weird :S

Was there a difference in the way the machines were built? (Example: Were they OEM versions? Retail Disc? Modded/Slipstreamed Disc?)

I've always seen the "Terminal Services" in RDP with the classic Start menu set.

I remember I got it sometimes when I went to task manager -> users tab -> right clicked one user and clicked Disconnect. And then used Fast user switching to switch to some other user. I remember I got it then on my Start menu without RDP. :)
