I believe the trial discs are for free, you just need to pay for shipping

why do I have to pay for shipping, when most other dvd orders are free? no shipping charges.

I think it's because you get a free OS and the trial lasts for 8 months if you use slmgr -rearm 3 times.

I've got my evaluation discs from the "Hero Hack Pack". You were able to order it for free on this page some months ago. Unfortunately they don't ship it anymore.

Just delete or rename SLLUA.exe, SLUI.exe and SLUINotify.dll and it will never prompt you with activation, no kidding. I have tried it myself.
