i had installed windows 7 a couple of times
but all times i installed i got 3.0 hdd speed score, very low speed :(
on vista i have 5.9
and so far i noticed that windows vista runs faster on my pc than windows 7

my pc is:
intel pentium dual cpu E2140 @ 1.60 ghz 1.60 ghz
2x1gb ddr2 dual at 800 mhz speed
nvidia 7300 GT 256 GDDR3
hdd sata 160 GB (using windows on it all the time)
hdd ide 250 gb (using for data:games, music and the rest)
all the the hardwares are suported and installed by windows with default drivers, autoinstall evrey time i install windows
i dont need to install drivers..

what is the problem thats slows the hdd on windows 7 that much ? :(

Maybe you should defragment your drive? That can affect disk speed performance. I recommend using O&O or Diskeeper. The one included with windows doesn't do a thorough job like those do.

I'd reccomend Defraggler or Diskeeper, but the older versions of Diskeeper seem to be better than the newer ones...

Maybe you shouldn't worry about a number. It's just a number. Does 7 run fine for you in the ways you want it to? If the answer is yes, then let it go and move on. It's just like people who cry they can't get 90fps in a game, but can get 70. At that point you can't even tell a difference, lol.

actualy vista is faster on my pc i got maximum fps in games, very fast speed on explorer, some time im amazed...
in seven its kinda slow even explorer runs stupid
i tryed windows 7 home premium cause its low on requirements than ultimate and still the same with performance on windows explorer...
and games on 7 are a little slow... dont know why,the loading is kinda slow, but the fps are more slow with 40% than vista

what now ? :(

they have changed the way they determine your score. do a google search and you will see that's what most people get. I get the same. If you want a faster drive, try putting them in RAID or buy a SSD

It pretty much depends on if you have write caching on. Turn it off and you'll see and increase in score.

It has to do with the interface. My old hard was a SATA 1.5Gb/s which a score of 2.0 but when I replace it a SATA 3.0Gb/s, it scored a 5.4.

I recon this is just simply a problem with 7's performance ratings or disk benchmark. My CPU score actually went up from 5.3 to 5.9, my desktop graphics score went from 5.9 to 7.6 but my hdd score on a freshly formatted 500gb SATA2 went from 5.9 to 2.6. I wouldnt read to much into it, the whole performance score thing is simply retarded anyway. Stick with any established benchmarking tools if you want to gauge performance accurately.

if you really want the number, you can just edit the file where the scores are stored.

On the matter of write caching, we very much believe it is a mistake that the WinEI score improves dramatically when write caching is disabled. We don't recommend disabling write caching and are working to understand how best to prevent the scores from improving so dramatically simply by disabling the cache.  We do know, tha write caching typcially helps best with large sequential reading sequences and that disabling the cache prevents the build up of background work that may later interfere w/ subsequent reads. In other words, with caching disable we don't see the very long IOs that result in our capping the score at a low level.

On the matter of transparency, it is indeed our plan to disclose in great detail how the scores are calculated, what the tests attempt to measure, why, and how they map to realistic scenarios and usage patterns.

For the disk assessments, the tests are run on the disk that has Windows 7 installed on it.

On the matter of keeping the tests consistent between operating system releases, we debated this internally and decided it was best to accept some changes to address positive, and sometimes negative, issues that impact realistic scenarios.  In support of this decision, I'd like to point out we had a great deal of data in our hands highlighting some common performance issues with disks, including almost all of the early solid state disks as they hit the market.  Given the WinEI tests were not sophisticated enough to catch the problem, it seemed wrong for us to continue to highlight the drives as being good, or very good, when in fact they were the root of many responsiveness issues.
