Windows 98 works very slow inside of VirtualBox and VM use huge amount of CPU. This is bad advice to use VirtualBox. Even you install something like Rain utility in Win98 VM you still got SLOW OS. So best way is use WMVare(and i think NOT latest. Maybe 6.0 or even 5.x)

VirtualBox is good for me (running on a Debian host with a dualcore 3.00ghz).

I did get windows 98 running on a pentium 4 HT 2.8ghz, 512mb ram with an ATI Radeon 9250 graphics card a few years ago.

It ran really fast. Though I doubt it'd be possible on a dual core, there's no SMP code in 98.

(Was there even any SMP code in 2000?)

It works fine on my computers. (But they run in my server cluster, which is most likely a huge amount faster than the average PC cluster, not to say non-clusters.) I prefer VMware for non-clusters (Laptop for example)

Yeah sure might be possible, WDM helps, good luck finding SMP drivers for Win98.

There is no support for SMP within 98. SMP support was never part of the 9x line, but something Windows NT had from the start - one reason why Windows NT was considered superior enough to take over from the 9x line (among many other reasons of course).

Hence why NT kicked its ass. I didn't know NT4 had SMP support (y). Though NT4 was great.
Plain and bland, but it did its job.
