[EDIT] Do you think Windows 7 will introduce WinFS, like Windows Cairo ?

Wrong of a few fronts.

1) WinFS was introduced in Alpha (maybe beta also) of LONGHORN.
2) Cairo is the codename of an Explorer SHELL, not a Windows.
2a) And the Windows you are referring to is called Memphis NT (The codename for Windows 2000).
3) WinFS was to unstable to use, maybe later, but not in windows 7.

Cairo was the codename of Windows NT 4.0 [... ] The remaining component is the object file system. It was once planned to be implemented in the form of WinFS as part of Windows Vista but development was cancelled in June 2006 {en.wikipedia.org}

You're both damn wrong.

Cairo was a collection of different types of test technologies built upon the NT Kernel, it wasn't an operating system, and nor was with a "Windows Shell" (I'm not talking about the Shell ontop of NT 3.51/4).

WinFS is from the Cairo Project, not from Longhorn, it was moved over to the Longhorn Platform from Cairo after many years of Development.

OFS is still slightly in Windows 7 (The Libraries), but not in the full fashion of the original idea of WinFS.

Indeed, it runs on top of the Search engine rather than a database, if I remember correctly. For all intents and purposes though, Search technology has moved on enough to be able to achieve much of what WinFS set out to do with less of a performance overhead.

I wish people would just let WinFS rest in peace. A lot, if not most, of the functionality in the demos we remember already exist today. The thing that got me excited about it was the network independence and that's already in Windows Search.

WinFS is dead, D E A D. Some of the ideas went into other projects but there will never be a WinFS as we saw in the concepts.

As far as I can see there is no need for WinFS
Search is extremely fast as it is, and the new librarys feature takes care of any need for virtual folders (personally I'm loving librarys, and its ability to give me one place to access files from multiple hard disks)
