I've got this computer:

2.6 GigaHz processor
256 MB memory
30 GB HD
64 MB graphiccard

What is a good beta for it? I would like to have a kind of stable longhorn.

Or is there a way of installing 7 without enough performance?

Seems like it'd be good to try out Whistler builds on.

You`ll need some more ram to run Windows 7.
I`m not sure about your graphics card. But try to get at least 1gb of ram of you want to run 7

Longhorn should run fine with 256 mb, but if you can get 512 mb, it would be perfect

What about Whistler?

if you got a gig of ram you could put any os on it and run it grat for 25$ or so.... but personally i would just put xp on it.

im sure windows 7 would run but on mine it uses 300mb ram all the time so i dont know about only 256...

and whoever said you need a gig of ram for windows 7 is wrong it runs vry speedy with only 384mb. though i prefer 448 (64mb for vram instead of 128).

If you want to run multiple programs at the same time, you need a gig or more of Ram, simple as that, and the fact being, you can pick up Ram for so cheap these days it doesn't really matter, you can go with generic ram also, that type usually comes from the same machine line as high quality brands.

Yes you can use "Vitural", but it isn't quite the same as using proper ram, but if you're low on ram and can't afford it and have a cardreader, pick up a highspeed SD-Card (~5 for 512-1Gig) and use ReadyBoost, you will be happy with the increase of performance.

ive run Firefox 3.1 with 3 tabs, im, armadillo run (physic game), and the java 6 10 installer at the same time and still didn't max out my ram and didn't notice any slowdown, im sure if you wanted to play 3d games you would have more of a trouble on some but overall anything i can do in my stripped xp i can do in my windows 7 install.

For Win7 you really should upgrade ram to 512MB and with your graphics card you will be probably unable to run Aero (it requires DX9 graphics card with PS model 2.0). What model is it?
